I'm not a new player when it comes to HC I have 2 years under my belt and many Friday nights op and many Saturdays dedicated to Storyline OPs but have never came across ATAs? I know what they are but have a question or 3. do you pay the points for the whole team to utilize the ATA or do you pay the points for each character, and does the team have to be themed? and can you use more then one ATA on your force?
Not trying to be snarky, but in two years, you've never read the rulebook which has the answers to your questions?
I got explained how to play by playing. and read parts of the rule book when certain situations came up that I didn't know, I have never read the entire rule book. word of mouth is the primary way I learned. TA came up but never ATAs, but I guess ill do the research just thought it would be fast to ask on here since I'm at work and the heroclix web site and wizkids wed site are blocked on my work computer.
but its not snarky. it is stupid that I have never read about ATAs
It's not stupid but it's one of those open jokes that has happened so much it isn't funny anymore. It will only help you to read the rulebook for yourself, as you may notice some things that were explained wrong or differently or what have you.
And reading the PAC will help you learn how powers interact. Too many players try to remember what powers work with each other rather than how actions and attacks interact. And if you learn how actions and attack interact, all you ever have to do is read the description of a power to know if it will work the way you want it.

take the rule book with you to lunch one day - it's not a hard read and you can skip portions of it that you already know.
you'll find all kinds of things in there - I just learned today that peanut based figures can be on the map on a diagonal, not just NS or EW on the map. It's figure 15 in the rulebook.

Fixed that for you.
When your knowledge of the rules is strictly word of mouth, don't skip what you think you know because you might be wrong.

Finally decided not to skip that part, eh?
I remember when I was judging for WK at DexCon I was walking past a match and saw a Galactus situated on a diagonal.
I'm pretty sure I broke out of passive judging on that one. I may have waited until after the match, but the funny part was that the response I got upon informing him of his error was "Well, that must've just changed."
I just hope the 2017 Starter with rulebook and PAC is excellent. I am for certain going to buy it. I just hope I get at least one semi-competitive piece out of it. Captain America starter has pieces I think work well, but Mouser Mayhem is garbage.
"Well, that must've just changed." is a known companion to "well, it just got changed"
When you ask for the source of the latter, "someone who is a real expert on the rules told me, they're a judge at a [big/famous/more impressive than this] venue"
...sigh...
A long time ago I had said to someone who kept referring to Blades/Claws/Fangs, or BCF, as BFC that BFC is Battlefield Conditions and their use in questions about Blades/Claws/Fangs may cause confusion. They responded that "it used to be in that order, that's how I learned it". I posted a cut and paste from Infinity Challenge's PAC showing the correct order and they said "I started playing when the game came out", as if they predated IC!
