Can we check older characters' dials mid game now?
So since the new cards starting with Superior Foes will have the dials on the cards that you can reference with leisure, Is it ok now to check out older characters dials mid-game to see what our next click is or how many clix it has left?
Not turning your dials mid game is more than just seeing whats next. It also prevents people from "accidentally" returning a piece to the board in better health than when they were picked up.
He means you can only look at the back of your own card not look thru the dials of the fig it self.
Correct, since the question was only about older pieces I felt the answer was fairly self-explanatory.
Along the same lines: if something happened and a newer card didn't have a dial or was somehow ineligible, you still could not turn the physical dial to "check it."
If the dial is printed on your card, you can look at it. At no point can you click any figure to see what values there are. It's in the rule book.

I agree with you on a pure rules standpoint. It's in the rule book.
But his question brings up an interesting point. If you show your opponent the number of the click your piece is on so they can confirm it when you're done, then other than the fact that the rules are in keeping with the "old code," there's no reason for it anymore. The new paradigm is that you're able to know exactly what's on your dial at all times. It used to be part of the strategy of the game, remembering your dials, but that's no longer a part of it in the new way.
I don't expect the rules to be changed, because it would require the drafting of a different set of rules on top of that one change (show you opponent, click ahead, click back, show your opponent again), but it's an interesting thought exercise.

I am planning on sleeving my cards to prevent cheating; I'll place larger cards in an appropriately-sized top loader and mask the back of the card with a slip of paper while playing.
Furthermore, just as older dials that do not feature click #s are not eligible for some effects, at some point all characters with cards that do not feature dials on the back will eventually be at some disadvantage.
As is the nature of the game, life goes on and a good deal of the catalog will be remade.

I don't think using the information provided on the official Wizkids character card is in any way or shape cheating.

What about looking at the dials of older figures on your phone or similar device?

It is if you're looking at the back of your opponent's card to see the dial information there, according to the latest word from wizkids.
(Which i think is incredibly stupid, but it is the ruling.)

No. You're not allowed to look up any information on an electronic device.

It has been considered cheating in the rule book. Well, not the actual rule book. It's in one of the additional rule books that coincides with the game but never gets distributed. You have to assume that the rule book does not cover all of the rules to play and search for more rules to find it on your own. I found out about this when I was called a cheater in a tournament. I was a new player and this guy wanted me DQed for seeing if my next click was a god click on project superman. It was, I pushed, I won, I was DQed, I lost. Pissed me off too, my entire team was alive, even if project superman died I would have won...
But with everyone referencing dials from here on out, the rule to keep dials secret will eventually become obsolete. If everyone is referencing the dials all of the time, people will learn what are on the dials, and keeping it secret will no longer matter.
I imagine a scenario where two people bring the same team (mainly top tier game play). Or someone brings in enough I.D.s for the round table and gets to reference the opponents team any time he wants.

There was no reason for you to get pissed off at anyone.

Rules against outside information exist in tournament guides.
Anyway, I believe they said, in the very first article about the new card template, that older figures were out of luck in regards to dial info for their owners.
