So, I pulled this guy today (yay!). However, I'm having trouble figuring out how to use him besides just 'point and shoot'. If there's any combos or strategies you've come up with, I'd love to hear 'em.
(FYI, the comic panel he comes with gives Stealth)
Pulpool is pretty sweet, but there's not a lot of teams he can fit on because of his squishy-ness. To bring out the best in this piece, you need a couple things:
1. More comic panels. The Stealth one he comes with is decent, but there will be times when you will need to run up and tie someone down with him. I suggest getting Chamionpool's and Piratepool's comic panels, which respectively are Combat Reflex and ES/D. Effectively, they'll need to be swinging at a 20 when they go to attack him.
2. A possessor. This is a given for lots and lots of pieces, but I think Brainiac fits this one perfectly. Pulpool can get Stealth with his comic panel, so that's not really needed from Eclipso. He also already has Precision Strike, which is another big Eclipso thing. Top dial, Brainiac has something that Pulpool can take full advantage of: Sidestep, Pen/Psy, Imperv and Outwit. The "Clockwork" power will also give Pulpool insane running power.
3. A special object. Most people will say run Round Table/Teleporter over a special object, but for this, I think we should run a Symbiote object. While he already has the Plasticity it grants, he could absolutely use the Shape Change and the auto-breakaway. When it's time to go for broke, you could also run the +1 to stats power, but that's somewhat risky.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of pieces that synergize with him in Modern age. What I've done here is I've made a 300 point "Soldier" theme team. While you won't get the probs, you can get a +4 to map roll. You'll want to choose an open map with a fair amount of Hindering terrain
You'll want two of the Thugs
You'll also want the Pym Pocket Tank, but it seems that despite it having been out for months, no one has added it to the Units section yet... Anyways, it's 8 points.
You'll also want a SHIELD Level 7, Firestorm and Nightwing ID card. This will round the team up to 294 points.
It should go for the most part without saying, but for your ID characters, you'll want to run:
Both Cable and Pulpool are fantastic harassers. Once Pulpool grabs the Symbiote as well, he's going to be HARD to hit. Between a 20 defense (comic panel), Shape Change (symbiote), Imperv (Brainy) and his own Super Senses, you've got 3 chances to roll out of damage from each attack. The auto-breakaway will help immensely if you hit a guy, and all of a sudden, they gain reflexes, but also loose move and attack, or you need to switch targets in a hurry.
The thugs are there basically as minor distractions and to make pot shots. Pym tank is pretty self explanatory.
I'm a fairly mediocre player, so this was the best I could come up with, but maybe someone else has some better ideas.

Unfortunately you can't have both a possessor and special item equipped as they both count as equipment. If you're going to only choose one, I would go with Brainiac.

Toss Symbiote onto Cable. It will work ok for him while Brainiac is on PulpPool.
I was thinking of using him with cosmic boy, bizzaro wonder woman, shatterstar, speed demon, and 20 point Ravager from new gotg2. Using cosmic boy to tk pulpool up and use his rce, and tk back. Next turn tk speed demon up to use his hypersonic to leave marker and do close attack, and tk back. Bizzaro ww to clear cosmic boys actions. Ravager to hang back and use support when needed. Shatterstar to hopefully move up side and charge in with bcf after pulpool and speed demon have hopefully softened up a few opposing characters. I was wondering if this team sounds solid, and if strategy sounds solid? Hopefully I get to choose map, so I can give myself enough room to tk.
I like the team you made, but there wont be a +4 for roll.
Thug only works for Named Theme teams. Soldier is a generic theme team and would not count towards his trait.
I have a vested interest in this thread though, as I am working to field a good PulpPool team.
You're absolutely correct, I screwed up. So here are my revisions, also keeping in mind that you can't put possessors on and pick up an equip object.
It frees up 20 more points, which means we could either run a full round table, or:
While Redwing doesn't do anything offensively, he does bust stealth to lower defense values and make people harder to hit. The other choice is to add another ID card and run:
That colossal retaliation is just too good, and you're still getting a theme team map roll bonus with either one of these, except it's a +3 instead of +4
@batman1983: Love everything about the squad you came up with except the Green Lantern. He won't get the Battery Tokens as an ID call in. The Beginning of the game has already passed.
The toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow...
Thanks. He was mainly there for his Pulse Wave. So are you saying, if he doesn't work like LE Green Arrow does, that he won't be able to take an action? That helps a lot.
EDIT:
Thoughts on Iron Punisher instead of FF Punisher and Red Wing?
yeah i'm going to playtest the two teams against each-other tonight (obviously don't own two Pulp Pools though). My big questions are:
Will Punisher's ability to heal really come into play; therefore making his dial potentially longer than Iron Punisher's?
and
Will using Eclipso to mostly grant Impervious slow down Punisher's options?
Looking to run (in either case) Slot 1 - LE Green Arrow (no chase yet), 2 - Spider-Man (cosmic), 3 - Martian Manhunter (LE), 4 - Venom (FF), 5 - Booster G, 6 Dr. Strange (75pt LE).
The possibility of Charge/BCF/web-token outweighs Plastic Man (though hopefully neither would ever be needed).
Do not own SHIELD Agent Lv. 7 and won't be silver for AA or AoU IDs.
In theory Fantomex would be a lot harder to kill than either Punisher, but it breaks Soldier theme for map and has losses vs. both Punishers.
