So last week during one of our sealed events, I was matched up against someone with the Goblin King. Thanks to the new errata for the figure's lower point values, I new I was able to counter its powers with outwit. But I ran into a strange situation involving my Scarlet Centurion. His special attack power reads as follows:
Quote
IMPRISON AND CURE SUPER-BEINGS: Scarlet Centurion can use Incapacitate. When he does, counter all powers the hit character possesses until your next turn.
Here's what happened. I attacked Goblin King (played at 175pts) using Incapacitate. I hit and gave him a second action token (dealing pushing damage). As I read the special attack power, Goblin King's powers are countered until my next turn. The thing is that it says "all powers the hit character possesses". I read this as meaning that even if the Goblin King used his trait to pick two powers, he wouldn't be able to use them since he now possesses them and (as per my special power) all powers he POSSESSES are countered, meaning that any powers he possesses until my next turn are countered. My opponent read the special power as meaning that he couldn't use any of the Goblin King's powers from his dial AND the two powers he had picked during his last turn.
Am I reading this correctly, was my opponent correct or were we both coming way out of left field? I'm still wrapping my head around the whole "possess" wording and the only things I found online were for "possession". Any help?
When the new rules hit things will be changing regarding the whole use/possess thing, but until then, Goblin possesses what is on his dial and uses what he picks from the trait.
Goblin King on click 1, chose HSS and shape change? Hit by Scarlet Centurion's incap special?
Phasing, impervious, and PC would be countered. That's it. Anyone else on your force that wanted to attack would still have to get past the shape change.
Thank you to the guy who gave me the page number. I didn't put down the power for Goblin King because I assumed that everyone knew it by now. Don't need any more answers. Closing thread.
