ENERGY EXPLOSION RANGE: Make a range attack, and all other characters adjacent to an original target also become targets. Hit characters are dealt 2 damage instead of normal damage.
SHAPE CHANGE When this character would be targeted by an attack, you may roll a d6. 5 - 6: This character can't be targeted by the attacker this turn and the attacker may choose a different target instead.
So my question is, if I have say two friendly adjacent characters both with Shape Change and my opponent tries to use Energy Explosion against the first one, and I succeed on the Shape Change roll for that character, would said character take 2 splash damage should my second character fail its Shape Change roll? Why or why not?
Sorry for asking this, but I need a definitive answer explained to me and the new rules mean I have to relearn everything by the book. Thanks in advance.
“BECOMES”Some effects cause a character to become the target, or hit or missed target, of an attack and use the term “becomes.” When this occurs, the affected character(s) automatically become whatever the effect speci es and bypass any effects that would cause the attack or hit or miss to be illegal.
An effect that might say “the character becomes the hit target of the attack” means the character automatically becomes a hit target of the attack regardless of adjacency, range, or line of re and that character could not use a power such as Shape Change to make itself an illegal target or use effects that would allow it to evade the attack such as Super Senses.
Rulebook page 15. First character would 'become' a target.
