Following Marvel’s Onslaught event, most of Earth’s heroes were AWOL or presumed dead. With a growing wave of villainy left unchecked, a new group of heroes rose to the occasion -The Thunderbolts. Their heroism won the hearts of America, but there was just one problem- they were the Masters of Evil on a long-game scheme to take over the world.

Since then, the team has seen a number of different incarnations and differing goals. Often, they’re villains hoping to go straight. Sometimes they’re agents of the U.S. government. Once they were an antihero mercenary squad. There was also an unrelated and underrated stretch where villains competed in semi-legal boxing.

Despite their acclaimed comics and multiple fan-favorite characters, they’ve never gotten a dedicated set -A tragedy considering how powerful the Thunderbolts keyword is. So let’s change that with…

”THUNDERBOLTS: JUSTICE LIKE LIGHTNING”

This 94-piece set covers every era of the T-bolts from their inception to 2018 and incorporates a ton of unclixed characters. To keep the pieces applicable to all sensibilities, the vast majority will have two point values. What’s more, to keep the pieces consistent with Wizkids’ new Team-Ability-as-Trait, I’ve decided to (re-)introduce a team ability for the most dedicated members of the team:

The Thunderbolts Team Ability:
Thunderbolts Team Ability: After an action resolves in which a character with this team ability damaged one or more opposing characters with an attack, roll a d6 that can't be rerolled. 5-6 Remove an action token from a friendly character with the Thunderbolts keyword within 4 squares.

This is weird serendipity, as I was just in the middle of looking up the Chaos War Zemo. I'm excited to see what you put out.

And there is Abner; good at both 100 points and 75 points.

I love it, but still... after all these years I still cringe to see Red Hulk's team listed as Thunderbolts. They forced the true Thunderbolts comic to change it's name and flop :/

Also, I only see one Hawkeye. Don't forget that his brother was also on the Dark Avengers as Hawkeye.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the Hulkbolts. I get the intention of a Marvel-Knights-Over-The-Edge morally grey team, but that’s never what the Thunderbolts were, and more to the point, it wasn’t particularly well-written.

With iron patriot (osborn...not these weak ass replacements) and zemo being my favorite characters, I would go crazy over this set. I have been wanting to run the full line up of the original thunderbolts, but no techno (subbed in nfaos nighthawk in which has been amazing). Want to play osborn's black op tbolts, but missing people there. Can't play the second version of the dark avengers, again due to missing people there.

Speaking of the second dark avengers, we need ai apaec and gorgon as wolverine. Super adaptoid normie would also be awesome, too.

Agreed to all of that! I think the trouble is that those teams were current during HoT & IIM, which got strong representation. Wizkids either likes to stay completely current or event-specific, unfortunately.

037 has you covered for Ai Apaex, but I’d be happy to add Gorgon, Super Adaptoid, and Superia to the roster!

One of your primes should also be Zemo when he briefly decided to be a good guy on the alternate Earth.

There should also be an evil version of Fixer when he had his neck broken and became a full robot.

Also, I really appreciate that you didn't include the technically-but-not-really Thunderbolts members like Taskmaster and Doc Ock. I hate that Wizkids gives them the keyword just for appearing in a couple of panels during the Civil War mess.

my one problem with that Mach X dial... I really can't think of a situation where I'd want to actually give him a double-power action, and deal him a click of pushing damage to get in something's face as opposed to pelting away with PB from a bit of a ways out. Just me, but.. I'd be tempted to slot in a spot of RCE or Prob/ouwit combo SP. Folks continuously underestimated Abe after he'd transitioned to the hero role... and yet when the original team collapsed, HE was the one who pulled em back together, not to mention intended to play Strucker to get the team's funding, then use that same team to take his limb of HYDRA out

I don't think it was a big thing. I think abe just showed up as a black guy and was like "Fixer made gave me plastic surgery!" and Songbird was like "I don't know if I can date you like this!"

But like so many other story arcs in Thunderbolts, it was dropped.

Speaking of dropped story arcs, remember when Moonstone killed the king of a microscopic race and was told that it would come back and bite her in the butt? Guess that never happened either!

There can also be a prime Moonstone from when she had 2 moonstones and got like Dr. Manhattan.

I love Thunderbolts. Such a mess.

Haha so much of this is what frustrates me with early T-bolts. Respect to Busiek & his concept, but his storytelling is frenetic to the point of losing track of itself. Every time he starts a great, character-driven drama, he abandons everything for an out-of-nowhere alternate dimension bit of nuttiness that sidetracks without ever coming full circle. He has plenty of fantastic ideas, but no chill. And that’s without getting into his dialogue!

I might be an outlier for the T-bolts. Started reading them with Ellis’ run, and loved it along with Diggle’s run. I also love the Fight Club T-bolts run. I respect the Parker & Busiek runs, but both feel a little confectionary for my liking. I think the Nicieza run strikes a great balance, and easily has the strongest-written Zemo!

The Hulkbolts don’t count.
