Hello again creative corner! Having just recently created a monster dial for MH:World for the monthly realms dial contest, I decided that one dial just wasn’t enough for me, and so I have decided to make an entire thread for my takes on the monsters/characters of the game!
Slight notes before starting:
1) typically my sets tend to consist of mostly monsters and hardly any humanoid characters in comparison, so for this set I will be trying to add more human characters.
2) Usually I have a complete setlist for these sets, but given how recent MH:World is, I am not fully sure that Capcom is not going to keep releasing more Monsters for people to fight, so no solid set list for now, just gonna make the dials as they come to me. This does mean Kulve Taroth and Behometh will be dialed and some point. (Hope I don’t disappoint all y’all FF players if Behemoth is super different from the FF games, as crossovers can really effect the power leveles of creatures from one game to another.)
3). I hope y’all enjoy these dials, and as usual, feedback is always welcomed and I am more than willing to make adjustments to my wording if my powers are to wonky to make sense, just let me know they don’t make sense so I can fix them!
4). Here is that dial stuff from the contest so you don’t have to keep jumping threads wondering where it is every time you come here:
FYI: you might be wondering about the Phasing/Teleport. I just figured it would be a good way to represent when the creature tries to exit the locale. You have to keep up and kill it before it escapes. One of the really annoying things is watching a monster you almost killed exit a locale...

Jaw unhinges, allowing it to swallow prey whole: Steal Energy. When Great Jagras KO’s a character place that character on this card (MAX: 1). While the is a character on this card: Attack +1, Defense -1, Regurgitates prey to feed the Jagras: POWER: remove a character on this card from the game and heal Great Jagras and adjacent characters with the “Jagras” Keyword 1 click. If the removed character had the “animal” keyword heal 2 clicks instead. Call of the Jagras: Leadership. DOUBLE POWER: place all characters with the “Jagras” Keyword adjacent. If there are no other characters with the “Jagras” Keyword on the map, generate 2 MH:W002 Jagras in your starting zone. Vomit Flesh and Stomach acid : If there is a character on this card: Replace Great Jagras’ range with 5 and it can use penetrating/psychic blast.

MH: World tries to bring the game to the next level when it comes to monsters. In ye olden games monsters believed their sole purpose in life was to destroy you, the hunter, even if it meant working with lesser (or greater) monsters that just happened to be in the area.
Well worry about that no more (or at least a little less)!
This game introduces something called ‘turf wars’ were bigger/more powerful/aggressive monsters would beat the hell out of smaller monsters that looked at them wrong, and boy is it impressive to watch... also helps you out if you happen to be trying to kill the little guy or retreat from the big guy.
We will continue this set by bringing out the monster that seems to pick on the Jagras a lot, The Anjanath!

Movement: Characters, Destroys Blocking terrain. Turf War: Kill all the Monsters: When attacking a character with the “monster” Keyword modify attack +1, if that character is less points, also modify damage +1. Kills without reason: Battle Fury, but can still make ranged attacks. Colossal Stamina. Recklessly chases prey: POWER: choose a character that attacked Anjanath during your last turn or that Anjanath can draw a clear line of fire to. Place Anjanath adjacent to that character. Size-Changing nose bone: Improved Targeting: Hindering
The Anjanath is similar to a T-Rex in how it looks, big jaws, small hands. However, that is where the simalarities end. A lot of monsters will give Hunters a few seconds on their territory, allowing them to leave without engaging them, so that the monster doesn’t have to fight unnecessarily.
Anjanath doesn’t give those precious seconds, because upon seeing anything it immediately decides it wants to kill that something. Inconvenient if you aren’t looking to fight it in the first place. Anjanath won’t just stop once you get off its turf, as unfortunate as that is, instead it will chase you across the entire area until you beat it into a retreat or it kills you. Not much can take it from its single minded killing ways...
Anjanath also has an organ in its throat that allows it to breath fire, usually in small, short bursts. These may not look to impressive but fire is the most damaging attack this creature can unleash, so always be wary of it when it decides to BBQ you.
And lastly, Anjanath has a nose bone and wings that aren’t visible in the above image because they can just shrink out of sight when not in use. However the wings aren’t strong enough to actually help the Anjanath fly, just jump over obstacles.

Reason: Changing Turf War Trait Title/now added ‘Brute’ keyword.
Movement : Characters Demon Mode: When Monster Hunter hits with an attack, place a Demon token on this card. Effect: modify attack +1. Knocked out of Demon Mode: When Monster Hunter takes damage from an attack, remove all Demon tokens. A New World: Monster Hunter begins the game with MH:Wso001 Scoutflies equipped. Adjacent Friendly characters with this trait modify speed +2. Blade Dance: Flurry, Sidestep. Can use Sidestep twice per turn. When using Flurry may be placed in an adjacent square before each attack. If the target has the monster keyword: attack +1.
In Monster Hunter: World, one of the new features is Scout Flies. Scout Flies are small green insects that can track monsters for the Hunter. The more you track a monster the easier it becomes, until the monster is shown on the map at all times.
Points: 5
Equip: any
Effect:
Choose an opposing character. Equipped Character can use improved targeting: Hindering when targeting that character and modifies speed +1 when moving towards the chosen character. When the chosen character is KO’d, choose another character.
Sorry my updates are coming so slow, whomever the viewers may be, I have been trying to figure out how to afford a Nintendo Switch so I can get the next Monster Hunter game....
Anyway, I should focus on what I can do, such as make another dial. Today we have one of the beasts at the top of the food chain in the ancient forest, the Rathian.
The Rathian likes to stick high up in the trees where it keeps its nest, but when it gets hungry it comes to where the food is. However, if you lure a monster up to the Rathian’s nest, the Rathian will likely turn said intruder into crisp meat. But be weary, as it will do the same to you if it sees you.

Movement: Characters Turf War: Freeze the intruders: When Legiana targets a character with the “monster” keyword, modify attack +1. If that character has no action tokens, also give it an action token if it is hit. Majestic and Maneuverable: Shape Change, Super Senses, Toughness. Chills the air around it: Quake. Hit targets are given an action token.
Viewer: Heroic should actually do that at some point...
Heroic: ooops! I should hop right on that.
Part of the reason I didn’t make the Hunters first is because I had tried the stick to one class through my play through, and for the most part used dual swords. Now I am more familiar with the Hammer and actually a fan of the Bow, and have at least tried all the other weapons.
So without further ado, some Hunters are going to be showing up!
A New World: Monster Hunter begins the game with MH: Wso001 Scoutflies equipped. Adjacent friendly characters with this trait modify defense +1 against ranged attacks. Dodge charging: Sidestep. Modify attack +1 if this character has used Sidestep this turn. Arrow Coating: FREE: choose; Energy Explosion, Incapacitate, Attack +1, Precision Strike. The chosen effect can be used until you choose again. Dragon Piercer: POWER: Choose an opposing character within Range and line of fire (for this action + Targeting: Characters) and make a ranged attack targetting that characters and all opposing characters along the line of fire. Hit characters are dealt 3 penetrating damage.
I haven't played the Monster Hunter games myself, but I am digging these designs! I really like custom sets that tweak the way the game is played just enough to be distinct from the Heroclix that are already out there, and your set does that in droves so far!
ASK ME ONCE I’LL ANSWER TWICE JUST WHAT I KNOW I’LL TELL BECAUSE I WANNA!
SOUND DEVICE AND LOTS OF ICE I'LL SPELL MY NAME OUT LOUD BECAUSE I WANNA!

Thanks! I have been getting better at dial design the more I make these sets as some of my first ones were a little harder to do. Then I switched to big dials for all of my figures (because Avengers Infinity proves it possible to have sets with lotsa Colossal figs) and that made the stats per click a little less crazy.
I will say I am not super satisfied with the Scout Flies as they seem to benefit range more than melee. And the Hunters themselves don’t focus on range that much. But tracking is harder to represent than I thought it would be...
(Just to put it in reference for why I feel the scout flies might not be too helpful, the hunters have 14 classes total. 10 have heavy melee focus if you don’t count the insect Glaive.)
As for not playing the games, I won’t nag you to do so, as I still haven’t played a Mega Man game (unless you count Smash Bros.) and I see you working just as hard on those dials.
Monster Hunter has often been compared to Dark Souls in playstyle. Hard, Requires stamina to evade/run/block, you end up in a lotta pain a lotta the time, those sorta things. However, Monster Hunter: World is built to be sold to less hardcore gamers, and is a good point to just jump in. I prefer the challanges of some of the older games, but also love the detail in World. Too bad I can’t have both...

Movement: Characters Blood Frenzy: When Odogaron damages an opposing character, you may choose that Odogaron heals two clicks. If you do Odogaron has Colossal Stamina and modifies attack + 2 until it attempts to clear action tokens.. The first time Odogaron would clear action tokens after each time healing from this trait, instead don’t and Odogaron modifies it’s defense -2.
