Ok, I looked this up on uppedeck and couldn't find any answer to this....... I currently got a MoN, for my deck.... the card says randomly discard (does this mean your opponent gets to discard your cards??)........ maybe a dum question but my opponent said that there wasn't any sense of the cards text saying "RANDOM" if you could see what your discarding......... now I suppose there's not much sense drawing cards if your opponent gets to choose "RANDOMLY" that is which cards to discard........... whats the real ruling??......... thanks in advance
You know what "random" means, correct? Leaving it up to probability, chance, etc..
In other words, you do NOT get to look at the cards while you discard them, as that would clearly not be random.
The easiest way to do a random discard(s) is to place all of your cards face-down and let your opponent discard, without either of you seeing what is discarded until it is in the graveyard. You could also do this yourself by just discarding without looking, but letting your opponent do it is probably better sportsmanship, and gives them less reason to suspect that you're attempting to cheat with "random" discards.
If "Mirage of Nightmare" intended to let you discard whatever cards you wanted from your hand, its card text would accordingly say so. "Random" discard definitely means you do NOT get to choose while looking.

Exactly what it says, you randomly discard. You could:
1) Let your opponent choose the cards you'll discard without looking.
2) You could shuffle your hand face-down and discard without looking that way.
3) You could roll a die and have each number count for a card. 1 being your furthest left and then moving to the right (or vice versa).
Basically, any way that insures that the cards are, as Mirage of Nightmares stats, randomly discarded, the method used doesn't matter as long as it was a truely random discard.
Of course, if you really want to keep the cards you draw from it, you could try to have a "Mystical Space Typhoon" (harder to do now, since it's limited to 1) or "Emergency Provisions" ready to use during your Draw Phase to prevent the discards altogether.
also with mirage... what if your opponent plays IO to your mirage... you woudnt draw right? what if they play IO after u have drawn.... i have heard diff things so i would like the correct answer
xeris2:
You could let your opponent do the discarding, but because you randomly discard, you can choose in what way the random discard will take place (as long as its random :p ).
SainkaCell:
If Imperial Order is active at the time the Draw effect of Mirage of Nightmare tirggers, you won't draw any cards. When Imperial Order is active at the time the discard effect of Mirage of Nightmare triggers, you don't discard any cards.

Sorry about this.... before I came about asking this question I had previously read the UDE Faq... and came upon this involving IO

When the turn player controls "Mirage of Nightmare" and "Imperial Order":
If you draw for "Mirage of Nightmare" during your opponent’s Standby Phase, and then activate "Imperial Order" after that, during your Standby Phase you will have 2 mandatory effects: discarding for "Mirage of Nightmare" and paying 700 Life Points for "Imperial Order" or else destroying it. In this case, you choose which effect to resolve first, and you can choose to resolve "Mirage of Nightmare" first, even though its effect will be negated by "Imperial Order". So you activate its effect, and do not discard. Then you can choose not to pay 700 Life Points to keep "Imperial Order", and "Imperial Order" will be destroyed. Then you can enter Main Phase 1, and you did not have to discard for "Mirage of Nightmare" (because its effect was negated at the time you chose to resolve it).
When the turn player controls "Imperial Order" and the opponent controls "Mirage of Nightmare":
If the opponent controls "Mirage of Nightmare" going into the turn player’s Standby Phase, and the turn player already controls a face-up "Imperial Order", then there are 2 mandatory effects that must be resolved: the turn player must pay 700 Life Points or destroy "Imperial Order", and the opponent must draw cards for "Mirage of Nightmare". The turn player has priority to resolve an effect first. If the turn player passes, priority goes to the opponent. If the opponent also passes, then the turn player must resolve an effect, and must pay for "Imperial Order" or it is destroyed. If he does not pay, and "Imperial Order" is destroyed, then the opponent can draw for "Mirage of Nightmare".
