I searched this forum and couldn't find anything related to this topic. My question is this, where is it legal to play french cards? I live in Canada and I believe that french cards are sold in Quebec. Would it be legal for me to spank someone with a french Sakaretsu? All I got from the U.D. website was this:

IN France.....teehee....I think they are actually legal any where UDE cards are legal. Not World cards, but UDE. Spanish cards are legal for tournament play in the US. It's the new thing to do. Splash in a Mago de la Fe into your deck for fun.

really though you should be able to use any card any where becasue its the card you use and not the language.

Unless things changed though I know of UDE, World, and Asian. World and Asian are not legal in the US or UDE areas to my knowledge. I have a Magic Jammer UR World that looks exactly like normal, but instead of Konami on the back it has a Japanese symbol. I never even noticed it until someone pointed it out. It is not legal to play in the US.

Just any card UDE prints with the English Yu-Gi-Oh sign in the back with the Eye of Anubis on the corner right is perfectly legal anywhere you are in the world.

Only Asian and World Cards (even God Cards) are not legal for play...

Just remember, unless its a normal monster, you need to have an english copy of the card in order to use the foriegn language one

Yes...even if people know it by heart...you still have to have effects available and rulings and such for them...especially if it's something not available in lots of other places..

actually you just need a judge approved discription of the effect of the card. you do not need another copy of the card. it is perfectly legal to have a piece of paper with the effect written on it as long as the judge that is taking care of the event has approved it.

actually, what would be better, would be at a minimum, a xerox copy of the english verison of the card. simply writing the card down may not be good enough since you can always alter the text, ATK, etc.

the copy should be clear, and easily readable. you don't have to show it to your opponent until the card you're playing with is actually in play, but you should have the copy readily available.

also, before you play with foreign cards, you should notify the head judge of the event so they are aware of what is going on and any potential problems ahead of time. that way they can familiarize themselves with obscure rulings or card text so if they have to be called over, they can make a fast and accurate ruling and are not bogged down looking up and verifying the card is question.

also, on your deck list you need to put down the FOREIGN name of the card along with what it is in english. why?? because during a deck check the team will be looking for the FOREIGN card to verify on the deck list, NOT the english verison of the card. technically, if you have a foreign card written down and you're playing with the english version (or visa versa) you decklist is not correct and you could be assessed a penalty. this would be similar to having a Luster Dragon on your deck list, but you're actually playing with the errata'd version called Luster Dragon #2. you are responsible for the correct name of any card that you're playing with.

Now these are the kind of ideas I like hearing about. For myself I can save a JPEG image of the English card on my PSP to show what the text says, so I wouldn't have a thing to worry about. I was discussing a similar topic in the General Discussion forum, International Decks is quite an intresting concept, especially since there isn't anything saying you can't use lets say a Spanish card with an English deck. I'm still trying to find a Spanish Nephthys for my collection ^_^.

1) I have a spanish Phoenix in my deck and it's actually spelled Fenix Sagrado de Nephtys, which is pretty cool.

2) HDI is incorrect. There is nothing that says you need to carry around the rulings of a card with you.

3) You still are responsible to carry with you the English text, either on a card or otherwise. Personally, I feel you're better off making a printout of the English card, with the text readable, rather than writing it on paper. Also, if I were judging I would probably not let you pull out your PSP in the middle of a duel, so you should have it down on paper in some form or another.

Well even if HalfD. isn't right it's still a good idea to carry something with the English text written on it ^_^. Dang online translators can't translate Phoenix correctly, lol, With the PSP, it can view about any kind of photographic image weither it be BMP or JPEG with excellent clarity, plus a carry it around because it doubles as my caculator, and my card ruling database. It has about every card ruling on it from the official website and the RONIN card database, which is really useful because I rather not carry a bulky laptop around.
