Can you activate a spell card right after setting it?
Player A sets several spell or trap cards and then plays Card Destruction. After Card Destruction resolves, player A attempts to activate one of the just set spell cards, Snatch Steal. Player B immediately protests stating that set spell cards are like trap cards until the turn of play has passed. Player A claims that to be innacurate. Who is right AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, why? In other words, answers that do not show where in a rule book or where on the official Yugioh web-site this ruling (or opposite-ruling) can be found are of no help. Sorry. I need official back up in order to be believed. :ermm: I'm sure you've all had "friends" like this. :tired:

You can activate Normal, Continuous, Equipment, Field and Ritual Magic Cards during the same turn you Set them.
The ONLY cards that take on the same properties as Traps when Set are Quickplay Magic Cards, which you cannot activate after you Set them.

If you have a Version 6.0 Rule Book (currently found in 2006 Starter Deck and Invincible Fortress Structure Deck), try looking on page 21 at the section entitled, "The Difference Between Set Spell Cards and Set Trap Cards"
