Ok. I read somewhere that there's a difference between "except by" and "can only" for summoning. I think it said that if it says "except by" that it can only be summoned by the condition written on the card. However if it says "can only" that means that it must be summoned by the summoning condition first and then if it is sent to the graveyard or removed from play then you can special summon it with cards that special summon from the grave or from the removed from play pile is this true.
Also if the answer has already been posted just direct me to where thankyou very much
Chaos Sorcerer
Dark/Spellcaster/6/2300/2000
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard. Once per turn during your Main Phase, you can remove 1 face-up monster on the field from play. If you activate this effect, this card cannot attack during this turn.
Sorcerer of Dark Magic
Dark/Spellcaster/9/3200/2800
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by offering 2 Level 6 or higher Spellcaster-Type monsters on your side of the field as Tributes. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, you can negate the activation of Trap Cards and destroy them.
This has been brought up tons of times already...
Cards that say...
"This card can only be Special Summoned by..."
...CAN be brought back from the Graveyard or Removed from Play Area as long as they were properly Special Summoned and then sent from the field (and do not have any effect prohibiting otherwise like VW/XY/YZ/XZ/XYZ state they can't be Special Summoned from the Graveyard).
Cards that say...
"This card cannot be Special Summoned except by..."
...are the Nomi monsters that CANNOT be Special Summoned EXCEPT by the method printed on the card. Even if properly Special Summoned and sent from the field to the Graveyard or the removed from play area, you CANNOT Special Summon them back since that is not a method printed on the card.
The only exception to this rule is cards that ignore summoning requirements (and the only revival card that does that is Level Modulation, which STILL requires the Nomi LV monster to have been properly Special Summoned)
I think the XYZ fusions were retconned to be Special Summon Only monsters, like the VW and V-Z fusions.
I've also heard that most of the Nomi monsters in the TCG are marked as Special Summon Only monsters in Japan. That could throw in a bit of a curveball during Worlds, if that's true.
That's what I said before...VWXYZ Fusions are now Special Summon-only monsters that are restricted from being Special Summoned from the Graveyard. (for XY, YZ, XZ and XYZ. VW and VWXYZ can be Graveyard or removed area) Getting them back from the removed from play area is fair game.
VWXYZ Dragon Catapult Cannon and VW Tiger Catapult Cannon are legal for summoning from the Graveyard with Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted IF they were properly summoned, and they can also be summoned from removed from play as well.
Unless something has changed, the last understanding was that the XYZ Fusions are NOT legal to be summoned from the Graveyard and ONLY legal from the Removed from Game area.
The text of all XYZ Family Fusion's were supposed to be changed to be consistant with the Chazz XYZ Dragon Cannon text, which clearly states that he cannot be summoned from the Graveyard.
Yeah...that's what I said...VW and VWXYZ can be brought back from the Graveyard OR removed from play area when summoned properly (of course, only way of doing so is through the effect) while XY, YZ, XZ and XYZ can, right now, only be gotten back (after properly summoned) from the removed area with the "Cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard" text (which is how they actually WERE ruled before they suddenly became Nomis for a little while)
Yeah...that's what I said...VW and VWXYZ can be brought back from the Graveyard OR removed from play area when summoned properly (of course, only way of doing so is through the effect) while XY, YZ, XZ and XYZ can, right now, only be gotten back (after properly summoned) from the removed area with the "Cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard" text (which is how they actually WERE ruled before they suddenly became Nomis for a little while)
Actually, the original English Text has them as legal tagets for Graveyard AND RFG, but the Errata placed them as RFG only, then later, they were dropped altogether, since it was said that as Fusions, they will never be properly summoned since they can never be Fusion Summoned.
Go figure.
I still don't agree with them being summoned from either unless they are a definite exception to the rule of summoning Fusion Monsters.
Meh...I'm not complaining...as long as it's one or the other, at least they can be more playable...people used them for that reason but then they became Nomi and people dropped them all together...now they can be used again and quite well with removal being one of the key things.
