Hi everybody. I just thought that I'd write something about losing your cards.
Nobody likes to lose their cards. Simple as that. But sometimes, u get careless, and you just "leave" your deck on a table during a tournament. Eventually, ur deck can be stolen, especially if your deck is full of rare/good cards. What do u do?
Well, the 1st thing to do is don't panic. Panicing is never a good thing to do. After that, check your pockets, or your backpack (if u brought one). If it's not in there, check the tables in the tourny room. If it's not there, then it's likely that somebody saw your deck and took it. Ask people wether they have seen your deck. Give descriptions of your deck box, your sleeves, etc. If u still don't get any results, then (nicely) ask the people to check their pockets/backpacks. Most likely, somebody is lying about the fact that they didn't see your deck, & is trying to keep it for themselves.
If u don't realize until after a tourny that u lost your deck, then go back to the store immediately, & ask anybody that were in the tourny & still at the store if they saw your deck. Also, ask to check pockets/backpacks as well. If u don't get any results, then ask the assistant/store manager if they found anything leftover from the tourny (like your deck). If they didn't, ask them for a list of people that were at the tourny. Why, u ask? Well, this is because if u still can't find your cards, u have a list of people that potentially stole your deck.
With this list, go to the same tourny the next day. Somebody would most likely be using those cards. Track people down using the list, as well. If your cards are not mint, then it will be easier to find/track, & it could give u some proof. Also have a couple of friends to vouch for u if nessecary, as the deck thief could deny the fact that he/she stole your deck.
These things can be prevented. Make sure your deck is with u at all times, & check if u have them after every match. Also make sure that your deck is within your eyesight if you're showing your deck to other people, especially little kids. Your could also make some sort of mark on your cards/deck, so u know that it's yours, & so u can have some sort of proof when encountering the thief. & remember: don't be careless.
Agreed, this should have been placed in the "Articles" section.
One tiny problem with your entire post though. If you lost your cards because someone took them, you are 9/10 never going to see them again. Not in a collectors game.
I never have goten a deck stolen but Ive seen people mark valuable cards like Halt! ... just like a red mark over the top so its not even noticable when placed flat ..... this actualy is what helped my friend find the thief of his Mirror Force
I suggest bring binders with Zippers .... I keep my deck in a 5 inch by 4 inch wooden box that is locked at all times. Oh and always bring a back pack. People tend not to take things out of backpacks becuase its a much higher risk of getting caught especialy if its zippered shut. If someone see's a deck on the table its much easier to take.
You go to the tournaments with me and Lord Yomi and no one has ever stolen one of our decks cause rif you know what Mr. Jim does then theirs no cause for concern but seriously this is helpful and it should be in the articals section
I have had my deck appropriated twice. The first time was a simple misunderstanding, my DBZ deck was in a box exactly like the Pokemon deck of a kid who had just left, so he simply picked up the wrong box and left with it. I quickly tracked him down, so I barely count that as my deck being stolen, since to all appearances, it was a simple misunderstanding.
The second time was this one's own fault, we left a YuGiOh deck laying around at Card Haus in Seattle (when it was open), and some kids just walked off with it. I rebuilt the deck, but I have never seen those cards again.
The simple fact of the matter is, never, EVER leave your cards just lying out, unless nearly every member of your playgroup is someone you can trust, or you have someone specifically watching your cards. Even then, that might not be enough, as attentions do wander.
