why not, i thought, i'll do a card of the day type article over the next week before the game comes out in the u.s.
since i missed a monday card, i'll do 2
rothus the traveler:
BS-085
creature-armorloid
civilization-fire
mana cost-4
power-4000
mana number-1
effect: When you put this creature into the battle zone, destroy 1 of your creatures. Then your opponent chooses 1 of his creatures and destroys it.
you might have seen this guy on the anime already, and they show it as some sort of awe-inspiring powerhouse. in reality, rothus is a good card. power even with cost (1000 per 1 cost) without any real drawbacks. by the time you summon it, you should have another monster, if not several. removal is a powerful tool in this game, and rothus takes it and attaches it to a mid game beatstick the reason it will be popular is that it comes in the starter decks, so it will be easy to find. anyone planning on using fire should seriously think about running a couple.
rating: 4/5
popularity might fade after a while, but right now it's a solid fire creature
A very nice choice for your first CotD. I agree with 4/5. A solid creature with a decent effect = great combination. If you happen to be running Fire/Water, this guy teams up with Aqua Soldier, simply returning him to your hand instead of destroying him.
cool, now i'll do the tuesday cotd. it's already been getting hype as one of the most powerful cards in the set.
holy awe
BS-006
spell
civilization-light
mana cost-6
mana number-1
effect: shield trigger
tap all your opponents creatures in the battle zone
another starter deck card, so light got a break as well. holy awe is a finisher, and it can be used with very little thought. play it, tap your opponent's creatures, and attack directly for a win. the downside, a high cost, the plus is that it's a shield trigger. if this ends up being one of your shields, that puts you ahead the moment the game starts. i'll be using this and rothus in my fire/light deck
rating: 3.5/5
i don't know, it just doesn't seem as good unless it's a shield. the high cost is a definite factor, but this has staple written all over it for light decks.
When I use it i combine it with a card like Mighty Shouter for the mana.I Give it a 4/5 reason I did not give it a 5 is because i don't use it alot though.
I give Holy Awe two types of rating.
Against non-blocking deck 2.5/5 because the most your opponent should have out is two creatures in the battle zone. This really reduced the effectiveness of the shield trigger as all that will be tapped is one creature if you diecide to activate it.
Against blocking decks 4.5/5 as it can be used in a non-light or as a splash deck because of the shield trigger.
