Hey guys, i woz thinking of making a dark/nature build and a mono-nature. In the nature/dark i wud use the usual veast folks with the nexus and snares with the pits and smokes also the parasite worms. In the mono-nature the usual all rampant beast folks. Which is better in both decks mane or torcon ( please try to pick one rather than say both)
With Burning Mane, all u get is 1000 more power. With Torcon u can play him for free. I would say Torcon because sometimes he can be free and other times he seems like a kinda expensive weak creature but since your running nature than the cost wont matter that much do to mana accel.
Well..I like burning mane better cuase there is only a Chance if you get Torco and a trigger and if you play torcon normally you got 1000 power instead of 2000...
Depends on how you view them. If you only view them as targets for Barkwhip and FDF (which would probably be the case in the mono-nature) then Torcon > Burning Mane ... because you might get it for free off the trigger, and it's the same price as Mane for bait.
The difference between 1000 and 2000 is pretty minimal, in most situations. So I guess I'd rate Torcon higher than Burning Mane pretty much all the time.
The only thing I can't quite work out is why it's one or the other ... run both, dude.
I suppose it depends on what you value more: the chance for a free hitter or having a slightly bigger creature for the early game. I mean, they're both Hammer bait (which is why sometimes I use Steel Smasher). That 1000 power comes into account if you're wanting to attack with them prior to evolving them (unless someone plays Magamarex). Because, as you already know, Torcon can be destroyed by anything once tapped and the only blocker it can trade shots with is Marrow Ooze. So, perhaps base your decision on what's more important for your deck--what it needs to do consistently--and on how well each creature 'performs' in playtesting.
For example, with my W/N deck I took into account what normally gets played early game at my local store and how 'fast' I can get a bigger hitter out. Since I'm usually able to play Barkwhip quickly I don't mind subbing Torcon in for Mane. No one plays Magamrex there, so that sort of evens out the 'kill' worries. I tried a 50/50 split of Mane and Torcon and that worked out nicely.
If you really can't decide then split them. If you want greater chance at a free hitter then try Torcon. If you want to play it "safe" then go with Mane. If your deck is largely Beast Folk then you may have room for both. Try them all out because it really depends on your deck and what you're up against.
The best way to find out which is better is to playtest different setups--like all Manes, all Torcons, and a split. See which one makes your deck more robust versus a lot of different decks. When in doubt, I playtest (now I do that always)--because sometimes my opinion of a card drastically changes once I get down and dirty with it--like it did for Marinomancer (which rocks).
Both. Nature decks should start looking like this:
4x Torcon
4x Steel Smasher
4x Burning Mane
4x etc...
It's a great balance between speed and power plus it increases the odds for a turn three Barkwhip. At least, this is how I would play nature. Plus, that evo kill/creature card should be played more. There are so many uses for that card now and free evo kill should not be missed in this enviroment, no matter what the creatures attack may be.
You don't need Steel Smasher for a turn three Whip. Torcon and Mane work just fine. To see my opinion on this matter just copy and paste ellgieff's post lol.
How do you know which one to choose? Well it all depends on your deck. I'm pretty sure that you're already running Tribe (because most people consider him a staple). Look over your deck. If you don't have any card that you would like to be able to cast a turn sooner than normal then drop tribe. Good cards to get early with tribe are... FDF, Raging Dash Horn (If it's Mono-Nature then tribe, torcon, and mane are all needed), Diamond Cutter, Holy Awe, Mist Rias, Trash Man, Lancer, Scarlett Skyterror, Lost Soul, Chains of Sacrafice, etc.
If you plan on running x4 Barkwhip, x4 Tribe, and x4Torcon/Mane, then I suggest deciding wheither Tribe will help you play anything early. If not then drop tribe for Torcon, and Mane.
Well anyway I hope that helps you decide what to put in your deck.
I understand why DaDaMan doesnt want people to say both, or at least i think i do. Usually, if your not using Mono Nature, your only gonna use 8 beast folk bait, and seeing how Bronze Arm Tribe obviously takes his spot as one of them, Torcon and Burning Mane have to fight amongst themselves to see who gets the spot. Since im always looking for newer things, and like messing around with sts, i go with Torcon. However, now-a-days, like kaijudo rouge said, 1k difference can really matter. For example, if you have only 1000 power, your prone to the very-underrated-yet-quite-usable Magma Rex. Before choosing Mane or Torcon, you should check your meta for magma rex, then make your choice.
