Okay so me and my friend have started duelling again after about 4 years out, and it turns out all this time i thought we had both stopped he had been compiling a Necrovalley deck. Although ive beaten him a few times, he plays a pretty nasty deck.
First of all a few questions
1. Can i confirm the Necrovalleys actual affects? When it says cannot affect graveyard does that refer to things that instantly send monsters to the graveyard? (eg Maneater bugs). Or just to things like Monster Reborn which directly effect the Graveyard. Our argument is basically "Would monsters being sent to the graveyard count as affecting the graveyard?". If yes, then Necrovalley should theoretically stop it...
2. Any reccomendations on beating him? He has the upper hand in most duels simply because deck if more effecient, he will normally draw a terraforming on the first turn, or at least somthing which can lead to him quickly summoning his more powerful Gravekeepers.
I considerd trying to beat him at his own game, and use the Necrovalley against him by getting some Gravekeeper cards myself, but it seems awfully bland to do so.
Here's some rulings on what Necrovalley can and cannot stop:
Rulings
"Necrovalley" negates any effect that targets a card or cards in the Graveyard. So "Necrovalley" WILL negate the effect of: "Monster Reborn", "Premature Burial", "Call of the Haunted", "Question", "Backup Soldier", "Spear Cretin", "The Shallow Grave", "Magician of Faith", "Fiber Jar", "Penguin Knight", and "Agido".
"Necrovalley" negates costs and effects that require removing cards from the Graveyard. So "Necrovalley" WILL prevent a player from removing cards in the Graveyard from play to activate the effect of "Bazoo the Soul-Eater" or "Chaosrider Gustaph". "Necrovalley" WILL prevent a player from removing cards in the Graveyard from play to Special Summon "Dark Necrofear" or "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning". "Necrovalley" WILL negate card effects like "Big Burn", "Gravedigger Ghoul", "Disappear", and "Soul Release".
"Necrovalley" will NOT negate effects that are activated when a card is sent TO the Graveyard or that activate IN the Graveyard or that count cards in the Graveyard. So it will NOT negate the effects of "Sangan", "Witch of the Black Forest", "Black Pendant", "Giant Rat", "Mystic Tomato", "Kuriboh", "Graceful Charity", "Sinister Serpent", "Marie the Fallen One", "Buster Blader", "Shadow Ghoul", "Helpoemer", "Sword of Deep-Seated", "Vampire Lord", "Coffin Seller", and "Magical Thorn".
"Necrovalley" will NOT negate effects that do not target a card or cards in the Graveyard. So "Necrovalley" will NOT negate the effects of "Dark Necrofear" (when destroyed and sent to the Graveyard), "Revival Jam", "Winged Sage Falcos", "Twin-Headed Behemoth", "Mystical Knight of Jackal", and "Red-Moon Baby".
Basically, Necrovalley stops anything that tries to remove cards from the grave in any way. but it can't negate effects that send cards to the grave or effects that activate in the grave.
Make Necrovalley your #1 target. When he runs out of them, his deck runs out of power. Being that I have ran gravekeepers for a long, long time, trust me. A little tip for him, run Magic Drains, Spell Shields and the like. Just a couple. And for you, 1 card that I have always thought would be funny is Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell. Early game on the Valley would just...be fun. Also consider utility monsters like Snipe Hunter and depending on your deck, try Deck Devastation Virus.
