OK, here is a unique idea. It is based on the concept of scouting and intellegence work prior to a battle.
It is designed to end most of the problems with lack of parity in armies creating inevitable defeat from round 1.
It goes like this...
"After rolling to determine who goes first, both players must show thier armies to their opponent. Armies shall consist of the stated point values, plus a 20% sideboard.
After viewing the armies, both opponents are alloted 1.5 minutes per 100 points to field an army that meets the established point values. During this 'scouting' time, terrain pieces must also be choosen.
The game then returns to terrain placement and army fielding per the rule book."
This way, you can do some quick strategy and counter strategy based on what you are seeing. Oppenent has Arnis on his side? Maybe you want to switch out that ICE mech for a couple more VTOLS. Seeing lot of infantry in your opponents stable? Maybe a formation of SS Fenrirs is in order.
I think this change would allow people to not feel so hopeless when they field an army ill-suited for their opponent. It would also lead to greater variation in potential tactics / units run.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion Chozyn. I can see the logic behind his suggestion. And other games have this (a la Magic ). I doubt such a concept would ever be implemented though.

I like your idea alot and altho some thing like this alone isint enough to fix the games extensive problems its a step in the right direction. Its a pitty we dont get more posts like this one. On the realms all you see are constant mindless rants about how the games unbalanced has broken units...... and arnis .... but little or no intelegent threads on how to make our game work right. Cudos for useing your brain lt_murgen keep the ideas comeing.
