Normally I buy 3-4 booster a week. A pretty healthy habit if you ask me. Too much. I've actually been buying a lot of DA which is still available in my area along with FFE. I haven't bought any boosters this week since the announced Approved Play changes and don't plan too. I certainly won't be buying DA and FFE boosters anymore. Will I buy boosters again? Of course but not in the volume I once did. Why should I when they'll eventually be retired?
I voted for less boosters. I plan on buying almost no boosters, and just playing until all of the pieces I have are no longer tournament legal. Then they will go into the box with my Ad&D first and second editions, my WEG Star Wars first and Second editions, and a half dozen other games I got p-o'd at.
actually, my plan is just to ignore the retirement plan all together, and to convince my venue to do the same.
After all, if everyone agrees that they did not see any banned units being played (HONEST!) were there banned units?
I buy 10-15 boosters per set, and I'll probably buy 10-15 boosters per set with or without the retirement. It changes nothing for me either they do it or they don't. I don't see any sense in spending thousands of dollars on this game unless you are an approved venue to buy at. I wish they'd kill the online sale of units, boosters, and starters IMHO and drop the MSRP so people would be more "willing" to buy their boosters from venues. I don't have a lot of money to pay outrageously for the pieces that I'd like to have, nor am I going to spend a lot of money on the pieces that I'd like to have.
I'll go to only bbuying boosters for sealed events and buying singles of pieces I use or large collections of factions I collect off ebay. No more 1 + cases per expansion like I used to buy.
If I continue to play after the proposed retirement, this will force me to stop buying by the case. I may buy a case of Falcon's Prey, but only if the game isn't totally dead in my area by then.
I do want to play until the sun sets on this game, but WK will force me to just buy singles from the newer sets if I want to remain viable AND tourney legal.
I will buy only for Marquee, and when this stupid rule take a effect I won't spend a red cent on this game.
Since FFE I always bought a case up front from my local store AND then I would buy ALOT boosters in between that would add up a another for a total of 2 CASES A SET. I don't care if the new FP set has a higherlander mech for the HLer with a base defense of 25, I am NOT buy there #### by the cases anymore.
The only thing I'm going to do is go to my venue and buy some singles from the previous sets to fill out the 4 factions I have collected and that's it. I don't need or want much and at least that will help my venue out as they are going to take a hit too.
I may not even buy any more singles from any new expansions sets. I haven't made that decision yet.
I will play in the campaigns until all my units are retired, and still play friendly games of MW:DA and Solaris at my venue.
As of now, I don't want to give WizTopps a single dime of my money.
I'm waiting to see, but I expect to continue as is. One other item: it's FEWER not less. (I have less money than Bob, but Sarah has fewer coins than either of us!) Now that I've taken my pet peeve out for a walk I'll take my leave!
I'll be collecting at pretty much the same rate right up until the point where they actually start banning (you say tomayto... I say tomahto) sets then I'm done.
I've already got more than 600 different units (and thousands of units total) which is more than enough to field a combined arms regiment or all Mech battalion for every faction except the Republic and Stormhammers (I could field a combined arms battalion or a Mech company for them... I just don't have sufficient units for them yet... though I'm closing in on a Mech Regiment for the Highlanders). By the time the first MW sets are banned I can expect to have around 200 more distinct units... which should be more than enough to provide any playing style with what they need.
Once the ban hits I'm going to moving towards starting my own league of players in the area featuring faction pure matches and some cleaned up rules. Since I have all the figures any group would ever need there will be no need for players to buy anything. We could either play for fun or, if there was interest in making competive, do a "pool $5 each for a 1st and 2nd place cash prize" type of thing. If you think the possibility of LE's will draw people, try offering them a chance to walk away with more money than they started the night with and no hassle of having to put the prize up on eBay and hope for the best.
Best of all, unless something in Falcon's Prey is exceedingly broken I don't think I'll need to ban anything from play... We've already got rules fixes around here that take care of even broken units like the Arrow IV while keeping older artillery viable (faction pure helps a lot... so does move/shoot (albeit for extra heat) and being able to fire out of or into base contact (with a penalty).
So my answer is... it won't effect my purchases of MW until it goes into effect, then I'm done.
