well, of the 2, i'd have to pick chee yunh. i mean 12 attack could seriously hurt something. those minigun cycles could act as feild medics for him, and also could harass some other figs that are just plain pesky.
I like chee's 12 attack, but his defense is abysmal, he will be charged. If you know it, and prepare for it he is the better unit. But Felix is nice. Tough choice.
You could use the Li targe, and then field those extra points in atv or miniguns...
Use the J-37..if it's one of those with re4pair it'll run a good chance of keeping your artillery happy and healthy! If your moving infantry use the ANAT apc's.. they have reactive armor, so only artillery that cause 3 damage (the liao Arrow IV tank is the only one in the game that does), or has Armor Piercing is going to effect them, whick translates to your being able to get the infantry to where it'll do the most good for you, bad for the other guys. <grin>
3 ATV might be better then 2 atv's and 4 trikes.. spend the extra change on combat engineers.. (4 clicks and dead, but they maintain thier armor piercing for 3 of those clicks..short range, but then again, you want your infantry in base contact anyway so it's not that big of a deal!) to be packed into the Anats. Throw in a Slamander if you got one, maybe even a Fa SHih BA (grapple..don't let them mechs get away!)
I've been dealing with a guy that uses a horde mixed infantry guarding 3 artillery pieces.. He uses the SW J-37's to move the arty around. My main problem has been getting my battle force past his pogs with minimal damage.
While I can quite understand wanting to use Chea, or Jarta, I advise you to cinsider using the non LE' Liao mechs. The Liao Targe is a fine mech, and well reported for it's utility. Don't be afraid to use the Liao Regulator II to back stop your force. It has the speed, and range to counter any infantry that wanders into your backfield after your arty. I love the Liao pieces but most of the LE's cost so much that they really don't get the proper support from the rest of the battleforce. Remeber this is Dark Age, mechs in the MW:DA universe are the ultimate support troops. It's the rest of your battleforce the tends to get the bulk of the work done.
I like your build set up. I would go with Chea in this case because of the deeper dial. Infantry make good field medics as well. All points that have been mentioned above, but worth repeating.
Chea has served me well in the past, I even have on Jacyn Bell on my killl record with him. I would dump the transports for another Arrow -4
Here is an army that has served me well.
Chee Yun
MHI Defens
2 Arrow IV
5 ATVs
2 Salamanders
this is around the 450 points, just dump the salamander if you are playing 400 points.
I have discoverd that using the arrow IVs For counter and then letting the rest of the army do some ### kicking when they are done is the best way to go. Remember that for the most part Arty is very Inmobile. The A-4 tanks are blessed with goood speed and you should use that to your advantage.
Originally posted by Tritoch Wait, how can you complain about Chee Yun's defense? 20 isn't bad, no?
It's not that great either...
Liao elite Targe (159 points) starts with 22 hardened armor.
drops to 22 heavy, holds heavy for 3 clicks total to 20 strait.
with its starting movement of 8 w/ evade it's more able to bring it's firepower to bear then Chee. With the amount of points mechs carry into a battleforce ( effecting VC1 and VC2 ) you gotta get the best bang for your buck. The only thing atypical about the Liao Targe is that it's salvage for it's last 3 clicks. (note to wiz kids: could we have a little more consistancy.. ).
The targe has better firepower, mobility, and armor then Chee which means less damage taken. Over all survivaility, with more damage caused by the Targe for less points nakes it a much better mech. And it's also elite, so add in a the utterly usless Liao (Elite) Danai support vehichle at 46 points. 2 pogs with very interesting drift patterns, 1 point of damage, and it has point defence. AT 46 points it's cheap for what it provides, and thats a throw away target for the other guy to feel a need to kill, else it will chew up his infantry shield once it gets in range. With the MH1 to cover against any airborn threat or any anything else folishly in range.
consider this force mix.
Liao Targe, E, 159 pts, MECH
Liao Danai , E, 46 pts, TANK-ARTY
Liao MH1, E, 63pts, TANK-AA
Liao A-IV Tank, V, 47pts, TANK-ARTY
at this point Mazin (who started this thread) would have 85 points to play with (remember he asked about a 400 point force, not a 450), which will easily afford him his original 2 ATV's and 4 trikes, with 13 points left over for another trike or ATV.
now he has 7 Infantry units. No capture ability though. The Danai would move on out on it's own behind the infiltrators. with the mech, MH1, and some trikes I suspect in support. The ATV's(hopefully 3) are keeping the other side pinned deep. Even the A-IV could reposition it's self if needed.
