Most everyone knows about the quad legged mechs but i had an idea..
Introduce them but not with a normal mech base....
a different type of base with different types of rules...
May help even the game may not, have not really thought of the details yet but thought i would submit the idea to fellow realmers
kahn
I think they should have a square, rectangular, or figure eight-shaped base. Thus they should not be able to free spin except about their axis like vehicles. Many quads should also have a turret to make up for that, so a decent sized rear arc but either two 180+ degree or a 360 degree front arc. Two main dials might be in order, one for front and one for rear with cumulative bullet holes for death. Sounds like fun to me, but I sense they will struggle with basing in the rear. Perhaps 2 clicks of breakaway damage to infantry since they have more legs to flail with.
A figure eight base would make sense as a good majority of the quad mechs are built like a dog, only a faint few are bug structured.
The dual dial idea would make sense as a few of these mechs have rear firing weapons and such.
I think that instead a pair of arcs (front and rear) would make perfect sense. twin 135 arcs with blindspots on either side would make them pretty interesting in games as a side assault would actually be favored over a rear assault.
Do Quad 'Mechs really have a front and back though? Aren't their weapons turret-based? Maybe they could be the only 'Mechs without a rear arc, but with penalties to balance that out...
I don't know about multiple dials, but I like the Idea of multiple arcs... Maybe have the primary attack correspond with one arc while the secondary corresponds to the other.
Mabey put the rear arc on the middle part of the dial, between the front legs and rear legs. That would be the most difficult place for a turret to shoot.
when I envision a DA quad, I see
a vehicle base, with a heat dial and a dial with only one two bullet hole clicks. the single weapon slot would represent a lack of internal space, and an arbetraraly (SP?) high defense with defense specials would make up for the short dial.
they would also have bout a 90 deg rear arc, but a narrow front arc, no more than 180, with 135 being normal. they would also have vehicle sightlines, but with mech style movement, that would be really good, bout an average of 7 or 8
hows that sound?

Quads do have a distinct front and back.
Scorpion, non turreted, with all weapons firing out of the fron 120.
Goliath, turreted, but rear armor is still thinner.
IF we ever see quads they should be on a vehicle shaped base, single dial + heat dial, with rear arc. A turreted one could have 360 front arc however.
Can you imagine what it would be like if WK tried to fit one on a regular 'Mech base? It'd either be smaller than a Joust or would be even more horribly scrunched than the Marauder...(shudder).
We can perhaps look to CBT for guidence for the base. Did quads fit on one hex, y/n?
I think it would be a good idea for them to not be hindered by hindering terrain, but not have LOS as mechs do. That sounds fair. Gotta give them reasonable perks. I also think that raising their defense (above a std mech) would be a good idea, but that would probably come at the cost of damage, since quad mechs have less crits than bipeds.
