has anyone ever played the bounty hunter atleas semi competitively? i thougt the Marauder II which was won in the faction war would've had way more play! so far i've only seen it being whipped out to be oggled or thrown into a massive lance battle just for the heck of it and the battle is stopped before it has begun. post your experiences with him.
I have a friend who uses him in almost eveyr battle we play. Campaign, H2H, and unrestricted. He usually plays BH, Kenny M, and how ever many hoverbikes/ atv's he can get. (in a 450 point format)
He is very annoying, but the BH loses some of his "toughness" pretty easily. The hardest thing is to hit him w/ ranged combat. But close combat, or formations work well. Taht evade is a problem though.
That 326 is very difficult to put in a standard 450 point army.
As far as Bounty Hunter goes... aside from secondary weapon, speed and attack, the Steel Wolf Kodiak is better in just about every department, for 73 points less :ermm:
I mean, for comparison... (Using the sweetspot on the Kodiak, obviously, or else it wouldn't be a fair comparison)
Cost:
Kodiak: 253
Marauder: 326
Firing Arc
Kodiak: 360
Marauder: 270
Primary Range
Kodiak: 14
Marauder: 12
Primary Damage
Kodiak: 6 Ballistic (SU Streaks)
Marauder: 5 Ballistic
Heat Dial Effects
Kodiak: Two Yellow Shut-down (click 3 and 4), One Yellow Ammunition Explosion (click 4) - total of 4 (-1) Negative modifiers
Marauder: One Yellow Shut-down (click 4), One Yellow Heat-sink failure that cascades into shut-down (click 4), One Yellow Ammunition Explosion (click 4) - total of 1 (-1) Negative modifier, 2 (+1) Positive modifier, 1 (+2) Positive modifier.
Repair-Markers
Kodiak: Click 3 (Sweetspot), Click 8 (No further SE)
Marauder: Click 3 (Lost pulse, gained IT), Click 9 (Lost all prior SE, gained Decoy), Click 13 (Salvage)
Active life-clicks
Kodiak: 14 (11 from sweetspot)
Marauder: 13
Salvage clicks
Kodiak: 3
Marauder: 4
In the end - the Marauder II is faster, a little more accurate, and needn't 'warm-up', however it has weaker weapons, less of a firing arc, shorter range, worse defense, and is nowhere near as repairable.
Comparing Geoff on his best click to BH on his first click is a pretty flawed comparison IMO. Most of the time, Geoff is NEVER going to see his best click, which is why he costs so much less. =/
Like any specialized 'mech, the Bounty Hunter needs a specific play style to actually be worth taking. You can't just walk in with him and expect him to stomp all over stuff. You need support to tie up anything that might actually be able to hit him while he closes the range, and something to tie up artillery. Work him like a Swordsworn mech, bring lots of water terrain and keep him moving. Only vent when you're safe from charges/etc, and keep plenty of cheap harassers around to help make sure of that.
You can fit 8 ATV squads in with him, just as one example, using two to tie up artillery and the rest to harass individual enemy pieces.
Hmm? Whats that? I've been rather consistant about getting Geoff to his best slot in 450/3. Artillery/lack of competition the problem? I'm playing some really good players here, and I'm putting Geoff in a SS semi-pure army, meaning I give their arty something more to worry about than Geoff (MY Arty :)) Usually works out well for Bekker, he may take a hit or two, but usually people are more concerned with my artillery, and I sometimes slip a stray pog under Geoff to help him along
Like I said, give your opponent something else to worry about, like a mushroom cloud of artillery, and keep Geoff back till your ready to actually engage, then your cooking :p
dual lego rush? that failed on my jacob senn so it might fail on a geoff too. in which case both are dead lol.
besides geoff 6 clicks in still had 21 defense?
but if u wanna support Geoff u'd put in 2 arty + atvs and Peasants. its very nasty. wheareas if u wanna support the BH u can prolly only take an arty and some ATVs and a few peasants
