Since there hasn't been any native mac Mechwarrior databases on the market, I took it upon myself to build one. What started out as a simple database to keep track of my figures and their stats, has now become a army builder that calculates stats and will help you find the figure your looking for based on your preference for features over others. There are many features that have or will be added that go beyond the conventional database and army builder. Before I even think about making this commercially available I need to know a couple of things. One, is there an interest? Is there enough interest for me to go through the process of converting this from something I tinker with on the weekends to a product that is commercially available and supported? Two, Does anyone know what legal hoops I have to go through with Wizkids? I've emailed them and they haven't responded yet. Three, if one and two are satisfied are there any mac users that would want to be beta testers? I'll be watching this post to see what the results are.

Here is WK's policy on websites and software. http://www.wizkidsgames.com/wk_artic...&frame=Company
Can't distribute the pictures, icons, or logos with it or sell the data. In the case of Battleplanner, they sell the program but all of the modules are free. This became a lot clearer since they branched out into card games, warmachine, and the new miniatures games. They have support that players can use their own pics (you just have to follow a specific naming convention).
I'm not sure on the prospects of selling a mac only version. Now something in Java that could also be run on Linux might go a little better.
Can't say I'm interested in a mac version.
(I'd fall under your PS categories but I'm not going to say that.) ;)
Yes. Interested.
Now which OS version will it be used under? 9? X? X is the current standard, but there are still lots of OS 8.6-9.2 out there. Just curious.
On the PC, MS Office std does not come with Access, but MS Office PRO does.
Here is a link to MS Office Pro for MAC on the Apple site. It doesn't specifically say that it contains access though... I guess I just figgured it did.
No Access needed. I used Filemaker to build it. So far I only have it running on Mac OS 10.3. After I get all bugs fixed and all the features added I will try with Mac OS 9.2. No promises though. By the way, which plan does everyone find the most appealing? A free limited version with paid versions with more features and functions(similiar to Battle Planner), or a full featured timed version that will time out and lock up after 30 days.
The main reaon I stopped using BattlePlanner is because I didn't feel like not buying four boosters so I could support a program that I used twice a week, that didn't have any of the features that I was really interested in, and wasn't flexible enough to let me do half of the things that I could do myself with a touch of Jscript and some simple HTML knowledge. There was also the fact that it wouldn't run on my iBook which, when I was still a regular tourney type-a guy, I was dragging everywhere with me for trade lists, my faction war army list, iTunes with three exactly 1 hour and 5 minute MechWarrior playlists (which covered setting up the board and playing a full hour long game quite nicely). Then there was the minor car accident which involved my iBook being thrown from it's place of safety on my passenger seat to the floor of the car because some yahoo Seattle driver didn't have any brake or turn lights and decided to slow from fifty to twenty and make a u-turn from the right hand lane of a four lane city highway across three lanes of traffic.
Did I mention that he had no insurance? *rolls eyes*
Anyway. Color me interested if it remains free. If it becomes a pay-for-play/use, color me disinterested. I don't charge people for the random boosterizer or my simply stunning unit/faction analyses, I don't see why anyone else should.
The way BareBones Software operated was to put out a limited, 'lite' version out free, then sell a full featured one. this way seemed agreeable to most Mac users I talked to (local MUG). If it timed out, well, some folks just might let it and figure on seeing if they really needed it or not.
