I have found that you can pull a unique pilot or mech with out pulling the other. I have seen this done about 25 to 30 times from about 4 or 5 different cases.
I pulled Arron Sandoval from a non unique containing booster. I didn't think this was possible.
Anybody?
Only for the "Super Rare" and "Ultra Rare" (i.e., LEs) are the matching pilot guaranteed to be packed with the 'Mech. For regular uniques, there is no guarantee that you will get the matching pilot when you get a unique 'Mech. (In fact, in my case, none of the unique 'Mechs came with a unique pilot, though I did get the matching pilots for most of my unique 'Mechs in other boosters in the case).
As a side note, the LE 'Mechs also seem to have specific gear cards that only come with those 'Mechs as well (for instance, CASE is packed with E.O.D. and Major Franklin Kroger).
i agree with you stheis these are much harder to get a U or LE best thing to do have a girlfriend pick them out i bought 12 got one U she bought 4 and got three... Grumble!
But there is an odd thing about pulling LEs with their appropriate pilot and 'unique' gear card from boosters. I'm guessing if you win an LE at a tounament that you'll get the figure and not the pilot and/or gear. After all, the gear and pilots are being offered as other prizes, such as fellowship. The bottom line...pulling an LE from a booster seems a 'bigger' prize (minus the LE box) than winning it at the tournament.
I opened a booster with E.O.D. inside and it had the correct pilot in it and the CASE gear card. This seems to be the trend with the Super rare (LE) 'Mechs. Wish it was like that for the Degendary ones too, but that is not the way it seems to work. OIh well.. I'll just have to open more boosters, like WK wants me to. ;)
I wish they'd have made that event a little MORE common, 12 boosters and
not a sniff at a unique Mech OR Pilot. :-(

Make sure you are getting boosters that were at the bottom of the case. In a retail store you usually want to grab boosters that are in the bottom right front of the display case, that is where the "bottom of the case" boosters usually end up.
One observation that I have made though is that the class of the mech, pilot and gear are all the same. They might not always work together (Get a Hauptman with a HL Ursa), but they are of the corresponding class. I just noticed this in the last few boosters I’ve purchased. Can anyone confirm?

heh
"yeah", um, I guess I can... :)
every mech so far that i received had a pilot & gear card corresponding to the mech's weight class. I received a hl battlemaster with jacob bannson pilot card. lol :tired: *sigh* sadly only assault mech pilot i got at the moment...
oh yeah, also have received mechs like the hl valiant with a sw star captain, br mongoose with a ss captain, etc... :) AAAARGH!!!
always a mech with a pilot & gear card they could POSSIBLY use heh... ;)

Your results may vary. :)
Actually, the layer seems to vary from case to case. In the factory-sealed case I bought, all of the uniques were on the second layer...
(I like the units from this set, but I'm not terribly impressed with the collation...)
Not that I'm complaining mind you. I had an excellent haul. But I'm definitely living proof that the pilot an the unique do not have to be in the same booster. Out of 15 boosters, I pulled 9 unique mechs, 2 unique pilots. In only one instance did I get the right pilot with the mech. I also agree that for the most part the pilot and the equipment match the class of mech, but not in every instance.
