For someone who is not going to play in a single tourny, or abide by any of the "active" or "inactive" classifications, how cool would it be to purchase a case of dark age at this point? Are dark age mechs competitive at all with AoD's? What about great unique figures they would be likely to get in a case of DA, would it still be worth it?
Not to try and talk you out of getting rid of your case of Dark Age, but why get rid of them?
The Battlemaster that runs the games at the Venue that I play at has talked about allowing us to use the Equipment Cards on the older mechs in the Unrestricted games simply because the rules do not say that you cannot. He may even go as far as the Constructed games.
Maybe you could do the same.
At any rate, what are you wanting for the case of Dark Age?
Uh... I believe he's considering buying a case of Dark Age, not selling one.
I think Dark Age had its share of decent/bad units. Some of the DA stuff is more playable with the AoD rules.
If you're not looking at the tournament scene, then pieces are pieces. If you can get a case of Dark Age for a good price, then I'd say go for it.
I think best thing to do would be to familiarize yourself with what's in the Dark Age set by going to the units section, start with 001, and browse through the units. Keep in mind that unlike recent sets, Dark Age LEs do not come in the boosters, only Uniques, so don't consider them in your decision.
Considering it's possible to get a case of Dark Age delivered to your door for less than $75, it's a good time to buy. The pieces aren't that competitive, but when you are playing for fun, that doesn't really matter much.
Dark Age is a fun set. It would be "worth it" to buy and play by your own rules at home.
Just remember that the Dark Age set has a very high number of Industrial mechs with melee-only attacks "bumper-bots". Dark Age does not have transports, artillery, or VTOLS.
There are a fevery good pieces in the set, but the real power pieces from the Dark Age set were the Limited Edition pieces that are not available in the boosters.

Plus the infantry. Even though the hoverbikes were initially the unit most considered powerful, I know a lot of people who are missing their Clan Battle Armor. I've also heard a few power gamers lament the loss of peasant companies for cheap unit screens.
Oh and im wanting to build a force of mostly rots with a few highlanders (thus the da case). What would be sets that I'd have my eye on? Falcon's Prey, Counterassault, maybe death from above? And what about the highlanders in AoD? Any Rots planned for the next set?
OK, if you want RoTS and Highlanders then avoid CA. There are no RoTS in CA and the Highlander pieces are not that good.
FP or LI would actually be the best cases to buy to get the highest number of useable Rots and Highlander pieces. With FP, you have the chance to get a couple of excellent Highlander LEs.

>sob< 15 Spirit Cats CBAs, and all they do now is sit and drink my beer... :disappoin
I don't know that you're going to find much lower than $89. That's less than $2 per booster. The cheapest place I've found for singles will sell unwanted stuff for what comes out to $2 per booster.
Keep in mind that the only Republic unit in Dark Age was the LE Atlas, so you'll only be pulling Highlanders. They'll be somewhere around 1/6th of what you pull.
If you're looking for 'pieces' in general, then I'd go with the case, but if you're looking for Highlanders, you're probably better off looking around for singles or lots on Ebay. Also, I know you mentioned that you don't plan on playing in tournaments, but if you do go to a local one, you might be able to find some players there who have old Highlander units sitting in their trade box. I know I do.
The first set to have Republic forces was Fire For Effect. I'd say you'd want some artillery from that set, as well as transports and VTOLs from Death From Above. While DFA had some really important pieces, it was not a well regarded set on the whole.

...
the boosters did not have any LE's ... so there will be a 100% of not getting any. Also, there were three RotS units ... Mason Dunne (MC mk III), Jonah Levin (Atlas), and Janella Lakewood (Tundrawolf).
