Sorta silly I s'pose to post an entire thread on it, but I was wondering what happened to one of these boards' more consistently interesting posters, mister 'dash-cee-dot' -c. corle. (One of the Big Daddys of the tactical game, and a player who cared more about the game as it was played at the highest level, well-- than seems healthy, frankly). As a player who cares just enough to wallop his friends in the game from time to time, but not enough to find bigger competition, still I always learned a new appreciation for the hi-end game by reading -c.'s post-tourney treatises.
Being idly curious (slow night at work) I checked the WK site and note in the O-fficial standings where he hasn't played a ranked game since October. And on here he hasn't posted since just after the AoD set came out.
I'd be somewhat curious to see his analysis of the metagame as is currently constituted :
--(Big Defense and Evade rule the game? The game is kill & keep away now?)
--(SC/DF alliance has ruined all terrain tactics, thus rendered the game boring and repetitive -- excepting the one time or so per tourney that you get true-gritted into an honest game)?
--(Power creep in AV & DV has rendered yet fewer playable figures at the highest level?)
--(common appearance of FP/SA means that the VC2 penalty forces a (very slightly) more aggressive game?)
--(ROTS/LI alliance and PDS bomber mean the name of the game is pog-flogging redux?)
--(Chicken Little was right, that's chunk 'o sky in my soup and we's all gonna die?)
I expect some of the heavy-ego meta-movers likely are in the Lab cooking up rule-changing game combinations, and could be playing fairly closed-mouth in order to fully digest and regurgitate the rule's chunky bits. Somehow I don't see that happening. Still if that were the case hey, I'd take it as a sign of the health of the game.
Mechthran (or San Fran) players: do any of you'ns happen to know if sr. huffman actually still plays the game? If so, hey, cool.
I dunno bout Mechthran and I certainly don't know Corle as well as his local comrades in arms but we exchanged messages on an occasional basis. Currently I have not heard from him in quite some time. Last I heard he was unsure if he was going to stay in the game. At the time I wasn't sure if I was either. At this point it's fair to say that I will stick with this game for a good while longer unless WK produces some new rules or units that are incredibly stupid and totally mis-balance the game. I have faith though that they've learned enough from their mistakes that they won't. I would hope that he hasn't abandoned the game. That would be a huge loss to our little community. Hopefully he's just staying low off the radar for the time being. :)
Knowing Corle, he'll start popping up in WK-supported events a month or two before Nationals just to bone his game up for the big tourney. I also expect we'll see will63 crawling outta the woodwork sometime soon. Knowing those guys, you don't just walk away from a game at which you're THAT good. Warmachine and Warhammer may be fun distractions, but I think that, for Corle at least, MW is where the intrigue lies.
Well, Noeticist is pretty common most days, as are most of the other "big folks". Some are just more talkative than others. Will probably has Disney kicking his butt to pay better attention to her, but then girls are like that. Corle is probably working up Nationals and Worlds armies with Elfthran or doing something socially redeeming. Or they could all just be ignoring us all LOL
Elf2, you might want to chill, this is like the third post I've seen from you lately, where you've flown right off the handle. Relax dude, this is supposed to be fun remember? Oh, and it's "critique" not critic. LOL
I'm sure corle will make it back around eventually, and when he does the forumn and the game will be better for it.
@ Elf - There are a lot of people here on these boards that hold corle in very high regard. He is a great fellow by all accounts and he is a phenominal player. As Trev said, it would be impossible to stay away form something that they are that good at. If you don't care about it, then just ignore the thread. There are undoubtedly many here that wonder where corle and his marvelous insights into the game are.
Why do you guys even care...the best have been silenced....because of an unspoken wizkids policy.
Playtesters are not allowed to discuss #### and noeticist is a playtester.
Sonicyouth has moved on...still lurks occasionally, but he is more of a star wars player and ebayer nowadays.
Corle? don't know, maybe he understands that mechwarrior world championship is rigged for the Canadians to win, so he moved north to be a Canuck?
Xyberbratt....lol he is elite? more like delete... :p
PS...firepower is significant power leap, you won't need much of your AOD
PPS...if you want to win in mechwarrior, move north to become a Canadian, eh?
since dr_strange only seems to have the ability to send insulting PMs to people who ask questions on forums, does anyone ELSE know what he's talking about, or is it just whiny bull####?
How is the World Championship rigged for Canadians to win?? (I'm not saying this isn't the case, I'm merely curious)
At last year's worlds, Masakari, the champion, had a Canadian coin taped to the bottom of the Championship game table. He claimed it gave him the win. I think he's a dirty rotten game stealin' coin taper if you ask me! :p :p
how did this go from a person looking to find out if one of the best players in the game is still out there because he misses that persons insites into the game to lets pick on the canadians.
hey it's not our fault that just like hockey plays we turn out some of the best mechwarrior plays in the game too. now if you guys want to start paying the millions for us to play this game like they do with hockey, then hey we'll be happy to move south, till then we'll keep our cheap persciption drugs, medicare and the world championship right where they are thankyou every much.
As for missing Corle, yea he is missed along with afew others. the game has changed, for the better atleast i think so and it would be interseting to find out their take on it all give all the doomsday talk that went on leading up to the release of AOD. alot of people left the game before the release of AOD most saying that it was because of AOD, that was their choice I know that our venue lost it's top player because his reason was all the rule chages and retirements were getting to be to much for him.
WK seams to be trying to staigten out the game I hope that they've done it before we lose to many more of the top players we're down to at best 4 players at my venue with not much new interest to be had and I hate to think of this game dieing out just wen things are really starting to get interesting and if you think I'm being an alarmist well there where 4 venues within a 2 hour drive of my home there is now only 1, we need the top players to remain in this game and to keep interests in it high because if people see the top players lossing interest with it then others are sure to follow
so to those who say who cares where they went, all I can say is you should or one day you might go into your venue and find there is no one left for you to play agaisnt.
