As we all know that this alliance is like mixing oil and water. You can put it both in one jar but don't expect them to mix. So far we haven't seen any fluff supporting it.

But could it possibly be that the alliance is not fluff related at all at this point in time? But to give another option for Liao players to pick another faction before Liao finally get the axe?

I higly doubt. Those jackasses are hard as hell to get rid of. Like cockriaches, except that some of them quote Confucious.

They won't ax Liao. And yes, I think this is absolutely about gameplay, and not fluff.

If you want to look at it from a fluff-PoV, think about this: I would ally with Liao any day to stop a certain bloodthirsty, nuke-using female JF Galaxy Commander...

Fluff-wise it's not very bloody likely that Capellan and Jade Falcon forces will clash on a battlefield somewhere in the Republic. But it may be entirely possible that Com_Raven is in the possession of knowledge which we mere mortals will not have access to for times to come.

Think of it this way, if HD came in to attack RotS worlds that had a Liao unit and a Republic unit fighting for it, and through some quirk of fate (or WK finally gets the message we Davion Guards don't want to play nice), I can see the SA come into effect, especially if the RotS unit was mostly Capellan origin, but still believed in the Republic.
