Just had my first games with a Guerilla army. I was just in a team tournament, and I played with ROCKETMONKEY108 (what a mouthful). It was 150 points per player, and you could use the same unique in both armies. We decided to both play the Striker.
My army was:
Striker
***Gunner
Podo
*Gobbo V
**Gobbo V
Clint's army was:
Striker
***Taur Medic
*Gobbo V
Came out to exactly 300 points. The Striker tag-team really layed a hurting on everything, including other Strikers, two Magii, Techun, Hierophant, etc etc...
First match was against the following:
*, **, and *** Galeshi Ram Chargers
Magus
***Gunner
***Surok
***Imp
*Imp
***Gobbo V
This was too close for comfort, but we pulled out a win. The Strikers took out all the fodder, and after pushing to the bound clicks, they took out Magus from 20" away (buahahaha!). We nearly lost the game when one of the Strikers was 1 click away from death, but we got saved by the clock. I think the score was 340 to 259.
Second match was against something like this:
Magus
***Gunner
Hambulandroika, 2**Throttle Worms
*Shade
other assorted things
We would've won the match if Alan hadn't been such a rules lawyer (declaring flame lightning, etc...). They managed to kill off my Goblins and Clint's Taur, and we would have gotten a kill on Magus. Oh well. Things really started to look up after this.
Third match was against:
Techun
Striker
*Elven Recruit
*Infantry Captain
**Deepwood Sentinel
And I think something else.
We went into the battle a bit scared of the Techun and Striker, but we managed to force some mistakes ("galoshes!") and caught the Striker between our Strikers and Gunner. Managed to dispatch that thing, and then we took out the Techun with steady fire from the Strikers and some help from a Gobbo who kept on tying up the Techy. We won this one.
Fourth match was a total blowout, against:
Magus
***Gunner (I think)
Chaos Mage
Hierophant
2 Podos
*Shaman
**Grave Robber
We won this match 940 to 16...it was incredible. Killed the Magus 4 TIMES, captured Hierophant, captured one of the Podos, killed everything else. We only lost 3 Goblins. The massive point boost squeaked us into the finals...
And this was what we were matched up with at the end:
Mortis
Striker
*Technomancer
***Gunner
***E@A
***Rivvenguard
***Specter
Something like that.
This was a close match, with a Striker on each side dying, but we managed to secure victory after killing off the enemy Striker and Mortis.
So...we won with a Guerilla (mostly) army! I'm totally convinced now of Guerilla's power, can't wait until the next team tourney in two weeks.
All you Guerilla haters-this is proof of Guerilla's power. I played against some very skilled players and managed to come out on top because of the Striker's versatility.
Terrain was CRITICAL during the tourney. Clint and I attempted to set up choke-points throughout the board, and force figures to become fodder. This was utilized in several matches, and it's how we managed to kill off several problem figures, like Hierophant and Strikers.
Good Job, Necro. Before you get insulted and told you only faced mediocre players and no arrogant and condescending warlords who are in the hall of heroes, you might want to point out that you did not kill an imp and run all game, oh say about 34 times.
MAYBE that will be enough for it to sink in to a few of them.
All sarcasm aside, Congratulations. Exactly how many teams/players were present, if I might ask?
the game in which we won with 940 points was awesome
i still cant belive my ***Centaur Medic captured a Heirophant on its last click and dragged it all the way back to the starting area. beside that the final match was fun, the striker squad ( or as i like to call them, the Hardy Boys) murdered Mortis and the enemy striker, needed to push alittle to do it, but in the end it all worked out. Guerilla is awesome... striker is a incredible figure and im so glad i traded away Podo, Locksmith Karg, and a Dwarven Hammerskald for it.
P.S. congradulations on getting 2 thunder golems in one day (heh heh heh)
Jess and I cleaned your clock's - and it was awesome. Bitter little boys need to learn to take it like men - Ha Ha. Good job though guys. I just can't believe that John played so badly as to allow you two to bump us out of the finals. We should have won all our games but we lost to a turtler. Ehh, it happens. Maybe we will meet again in two weeks.
I bet you won't forget that rule ever again - you're welcome.
If we hadn't had forgotten about that rule (alright, fine, TWICE-just shutup) we would've killed your Magus and defeated you.
You barely touched us! All you got was that venom kill on the Taur and a handful of Gobbos. Can't wait to get my revenge on you in two weeks...Buahahaha!
I just got my hands last week on a striker, traded for a wind minion and just added a ***Scorpem Gunner and a ***Centaur Lt. to round up the points.
I played against a licantrophy army (were creatures), the army consisted of:
Were Sabertooth
Were Bear
Minotaur Mage
Bond Maker
Soul Stealer
Shadex2
***Ki Devil
***War hatchetkrugg
(and possibly some other figs I might have forgotten)
Terrain: Set up choke points for his army to move around and for my figures to make use of their mobility and range.
I can't quite recall the per round breakdown of the actions but I ended up blasting ressurected were creatures left and right. In the final minutes of the match saw my remaining figs (wind minion and striker) at their last clicks, this due to battle damage ( Nope, I didn't run like a chicken with its head cut off the whole game, and I did not stall for time). Striker went down on a lucky roll (he wasn't hit the whole game, but pushing took its toll), the wind minion tough was taken out by the Ki Devil, the thing was that the Minion might have been outside the Ki's arc, so we let the dice decide, and it was hit.
Summary: It was a fun game, even though I eventually lost, but hey its the first game with this new army ( my old one was ML Ram). And yes, we both enjoyed the game, there was none of the excessive dancing, I can say that I kept the pressure on, breaking away and landing behind enemy lines to get shots where they can't retaliate. We both appreciated how close the game was and how we were both on edge with both our tactics.
By the way, just got new additions to my army (centaur champ and a fell reaper, will post later how this one fares)
Clint, you've learned your lesson ... I enjoy hearing you exclaim loudly..."turning off flame and lightning" in the matches now. You've got me doing it also (other tourneys I've played out of Indy haven't seemed to catch on to this little detail). This past Tuesday a guy I was playing did the same thing and when I called him on it I thought he was going to freak...oh well, we all make stupid mistakes.
I remember your GA army in that tourney and it was a pain in the a**. Only a few more minutes and Jim and I would have had you, but at the end of the match you whooped us......the Striker is one fine warrior.
>>Good Job, Necro. Before you get insulted and told you only faced mediocre players and no arrogant and condescending warlords who are in the hall of heroes, you might want to point out that you did not kill an imp and run all game, oh say about 34 times. <<
Well i'm not going to insult Necro, because I don't whether or not he sucks, but I can deffinatly say the person who brought back his Magus four times is a bad player.
