I just want to point out that each 10" you move him with ML is a seperate and distinct action. You have to stop and place the tortured soul every 10" you ML him. There might be terrain issues keeping you from actually moving 30" in one direction.
This is one of the problems I have with ML. I understand that multiple levitators working together is intended. When I tried to argue that the ML target should be in base contact with the ML figure AT the time of levitation, Demomonkey pointed out that 'chain levitation' was a desired effect - multiple levitators working together and all.
'Chain levitation' is what makes ML broken when combined with SAs like Ram. I was aghast when the rules were changed for Sneak Attack and not Ram to be the result of a move action and not being levitated. Well, to fix ML/Ram and to prevent ML from breaking any future SA, why can't the 3 levitators combine 3 actions to move the figure 30", but combine it into one 30" move, not 3 10" moves? Oh well, I doubt anyone will listen this time either... *grumble*
Uziekiele, I used to think that ML was fine as is. But lately I've seen it getting more and more abused, if that is possible, and seen better and tougher armies using it each week. And while I can usually find a tactic to beat it, too many times I see armies that have no chance whatsover against this type of tactic. I am beginning to feel it may need to be changed too. I'm reserving my opinion until after I see what goes on at Origins. Of course, I don't worry about it nearly as much in 200 point games as I do in 300 pointers where they can run clear across the board to nail you. I'll be curious the percentage of armies using it in the big events as well as how high they place. Since I can't pull the figure I wanted to play for the qualifier, I'm torn now between two armies, one of which includes ML. Tough choice. To cheese or not to cheese.
As a slightly humorous side note, I went to a venue on Saturday where several good players always use the same difficult to beat ML armies every single week. I decided to bring an army specifically designed to hand them their head in a handbasket. Not a single one of them showed up that day. I hate when that happens. So I played it anyway and just let the kids have fun beating me, which they seemed to appreciate.
Lucky me, ML is not at all prevalant around here, although I do agree that in the general environment, ML may have become too powerful. The only "cheese" army prevalant around here is deathstar, I am expecting at least three such armies this week for campaign.
Getting back to ML, the chain ML is what makes it so brutal. With the actual speed value of the figure, they can actually hit you from over 40" away with 3 technos. Not to mention hitting a close target 3-4 times with Ram. Ouch
I agree with you, that's something I would love to see happening. The levitators combo should be allowed, but making it a single "move", not three.
Altan,
That's sad, I know what you're talking about. Same here, many good players decided to start playing strong ML/Ram armies, filled with Technos and War Hatchet / Impalers.
Someone comes with a hate army, and then they don't come. And the "hate" guy gets smashed by other players. :D
IMO the ram sa should only work when the unit moves itself and not when it is moved by levitation. To me the ram sa wording backs this up, it says 'when the unit moves' not 'when the unit is moved by another unit'.
If it were to be changed, my favorite suggestion is to combine it into one movement. Allows figures to flank at long distances, which is a good thing, but prevents multiple Ramming, which is a bad thing. We'll see how it goes at the big show!
oh and another thing if i levitate a fig in base contact with an enemy do i have to roll a dice for the breakaway or it will just be levitated nno dice anymore?
