So why do titans get a bonus when attacking castle sections, and not tanks? Is there some kind of pseudo-logic to explain this, or is this yet another aspect of Titan rules that don't actually make sense?
Good question. It is also strange that the titans cannot do anything range-wise less than their minimum range, but can engage in close combat causing up to 5 damage.
Well, easy to explain.
Tanks are almost a year old now. Back then, their rules were made. Now, they tweaked and refined the Titan rules until what we get with the figures nowadays came to be the final version. Ofcourse they had to make balance changes or came up with new ideas since they made the rules for Tanks. So if anything, one could think about wether to give that rule to Tanks too - but that would probably make them more powerful then they should be for their points - and they cannot change the cost now.
That's a good explaination for the game-mechanics of why the tanks don't get a bonus to hit the castles, now all we need is the storyline explaination, like how when I asked why explosive damage still happens with a zero-damage attack, Demomonkey said it was due to 'problems with the shell casings.'
Just use the house rules 'minimun damage = 1' , to do indirect long range atacks with the mortar... otherwise, he sux.
castles can fire over units bases without any problem, right? like a free indirect fire? and they can double they range, but for -2 damage, and with theyr atack 10... put any multidial except the venomous shadow dragon and the mortar, 15' away from the tower; the tower has now 10 atack and 1 damage pierce, while you have atack 10-13 and damage 3(canon, tanks..) to 5 (dragon)... and because the warriors on the Wall cant do a double range atack and you can double range agains the wall, its totally a lost cause for the defender player...
I think the tanks shoud be able to do indirect fire, or have the castle atack bonus... because the only dragon you can kill with the tanks is the venomous, IF you strike him first, and four times (pusing two sides...).

What?
The Dwarven Tank does five clicks per hit, and can hit twice in one round.
That knocks one whole side out of most dragons.
I've easily killed dragons with a tank and a chariot.
Janx is right, there is nothing stoping Wizkids from introducing single based figs with Indirect fire into the game. I personally would love to see some long bow archers that could finally shoot from behind a formation of sheldwall knights. It's not a titan thing, it's a individual figure thing.
the seige equipment that has minmum range-- readdy for it? CAN NOT ATTACK BASE TO BASE!!
The only one that can is the living balasta- and of couse any titan.
The reasion they get +2 to attack is that they are made to take the castle down to dust.
That being said, the tank could never push two difernt sides at the same time- although you could criticly miss two sides, you would only take 1 push dammage- to any side you wanted.
Minimum & Maximum Range: Titans that have 2 range values on their base have a minimum range (the first number) and a maximum range (the second number). A titan may not make a ranged combat attack if the line of fire to the target is less than the minimum range or more than the maximum range.
and a comment by Demomonkey in another forum:
If they get within 4 inches of your mortar, move into base contact and make a close combat attack. That'll show 'em.
Glad to help

The only other ruling is the Close Combat ruling:
Combat (Also see “Close Combat” and “Ranged Combat”)
Combat, Ranged & Close – A warrior with a range value greater than 0 may be given either ranged combat or close combat actions. A warrior with a range value of zero may not be given ranged combat actions.
If you wonder why the mortar and cannon make close combat attacks, consider the attacks to be made by the weapons handlers (or do they load themselves?)
