I recently bought some figs off eBay and am rebuilding my armies.
I have under 100 figs and now have a Destroyer.
I bought it because my son really likes the Solonavi.
Most of my figures are AG, EL and MS.
I do have 1 ** Solonavi Drone.
It looks cool... use it as a cheerleader!
if you're determined to use it, use it as a solo harasser/flanker in large battles, or a centerpiece in a deathstar formation (although there are much better figures for the points if you use it this way)
it is not the greatest piece, but consider using it as.......a magic blaster! never would have guessed!
when placing some terrain, put 2 or 3 curtain walls into the mix and run up to one of them early on, forcing unsuspecting units to push to get away or you push to obliterate them. since it has MI they have to come around to get it, in which case you make an easy break and fly over to the next wall;repeat. this gets very annoying, and once you push once or twice, you get ram to lunge at the units who dare approach your wall from the backside.
Solo. Destroyer is best used as a harasser/intimidator ...
and throw alot of blocking terrains on your opponents side ...
and hide there to throw MBs :) it flies fast yet don't be shy on giving it support ... as it's defense is not that high and vulnerable to ram ... one more thing, you need a good healer for it ... i mean not magic healing but healing ... on which autumn lvl3 or a faith healer *** could provide really well ... if you have a medicine troll *, that's good too ...
Terrain is important in any size battle when using this peice! @ 90 points, you want to get the most for your money (or points as it may be). Blocking terrain is prefered, but others will often have to do...
[ag] Place a much terrain towards the center of the board, in a circular form... this of course will not always work because of your opponents placement, but I recommend about 4+/-" form the center on your side and 4+/-" from the center on "THEIR" side!
[ag] In 200, I like healing vs magic healing, because of the Destroyers magic immunity. Lvl 3 Astrus is nice (for many things) but you may not have this figure... anything w/healing can work, just look for a good deal, point wise/ability wise... Larger games, any healer works, as the Destroyer loses the MI, but normal healing is best!
[ag] If you "don't do" healing/MH, go with fast figures, fells, nightmares, scorps, soar-n-G's, lite cav, shades, etc... I look for 12" + movement! LI figures work ok, but you want them as FAST as possible!
[ag] The other realmers posted some "loose" ideas, like mine ;) . Just play around with it, and see what fits your "style!" Good luck.
[ag] I like:
90 Destroyer
44 Lvl 3 Astrus
61 Wraith
5 * Imp
__________
200 even, 2/2 action use. Works well with various terrain types.
Put your terrain out towards the middle. Park the Wraith and Solo.Destroyer out in the "thick-of-it" with Astrus covering and the imp just taking up space and MAYBE blocking a shot. Move 2/2 on your turns and heal when you must. Formation friendly, it is not. But action friendly, it is! I like moving 2 on my first turn and 2 on my second... but not everyone does! The Destroyer and the Wraith can handle a board pretty well, but will unlikely win you lots of games, unless, A.) Nobody is MI and B.) you roll lots of 3+ on your MB! If you ain't got the figures, just find your own thing!
[ag] With AG, EL and MS at your fingers, you might use things like: Shades, specters, crystal protectors, centaur lt.'s and medics, scorps w/technos, magestone lords (tougher than you may think), etc... each have their own strengths/weakness (duh.?! FrostedOne:rolleyes: ;) :p !).

New years cheers

*Points to the blue square on defence all the way through the Destroyer's dial*
Magic Immune, so it's no good for a Death Star centre peice. It works great as a harasser though.
If you wish, try finding people who are interested in trading some of their spares away maybe you will even be able to nab a few of the other solonavi uniques....
This is good in a 200 pt army. MI protects it against opposing MB'ers and 14 speed always has its advantage. But be sure to pack in a Centaur Medic. I suggest you put in fast Chargers like ***Nightmare Reapers to support it with opposing Rammers/Harassers.
it is often compared to the magus drac... as a magic blaster, he has a nice wide arc and 14 flight... i agree with suavecito77's suggestions... this is a decent fig... i just wish its points were slightly lower...
Solonavi Destroyer? Nasty figure in the battle field.Just keep him behind something like a blocking terrain or like what Runabout said use the moving wall technique with LI figs. such as Warrior Sprite, Nightwitch, Shadow,
Crystal Protectors...and ah Potbellied Gremlins? Forget the last one!:D
Since you don't have and probably wouldn't want to make a formation of Solonavi, the Destroyer can be used in a very interesting way:
With blocking terrain, abusing the Magic Immunity and Magic Blast combo. He's a decent loner, thanks to the good mobility, range and MB threat. Yes, losing flight after two clicks is annoying, but nothing that you can't fix with proper support.
Behind blocking terrain, he works as an anchor and allows you to move and position the rest of your army.
The Solonavi Destroyer can be a rather intimidating foe on the battle field. It has the magic blast/magic immunity combo, which means opponents will do almost whatever they can to stop it from finding a camping spot to blast away from. I do think that the ram ability it gains can be useful after a short while , being that you will most likely be drawn into close combat before the end of the battle. In friendly play with more than two players though, it seemed to become more of a magnet for other forces(one can only guess why...). My army was crushed beneath a hastily formed alliance made out of the fear of this one figure. I find that it seems to work best alone though, with the only aid either coming from an enhancer or a healer. This is a rather hardy figure also that can take a beating before running back to a healer. Overall, on the battlefield there isn't much that can match a 180 degree arc with a range of 12. Just remember to keep the battle on your turf when using this figure.
