I know this is an old, tired question, but why did wiz-kids alow the shyft to die? They could have been given new life if only there point cost had been lowered a bit. Its not rite. The shyft were a great Idea, only poorly executed. The other problem besides there cost was that they all basicaly have glass jaws. But then again, point corestion could have solved that. They actualy have good stats for there first slot or 2, so why didnt we just devise new stratagies for their use? Cost effective mage-spawn can make up for their over pricing, and proper use of terain/blockers/harassers can alow you to get in close enough to use those precious few slots of good stats. The game has changed since Wirl-wind, and although an all shyft army will never be a posibility withough wiz-kids direct intervention, some of them actualy do there jobs verry well. Iv heard many a forumite say how good at there jobs the bondmaker and soul stealer(with skeletons) are, but I have never actualy seen anyone make an army with either(besids me) . So whats the deal people. I congradulat and thank those of yoiu who have goten this far, it shows that you actualy care about the game. And as usual I expect manny to read this post, but no-one will post *sigh*(I have the worst time getting peope to post, no mater how entusiastic my writing or interesting the post title... Oh well.)
Also, Thank you all for puting up with my bad typing skills.
I've made a few all-shyft armies. Including the Matriarch of course. Most of the Shyft look pretty cool too. My all shyft army was niether large, nor powerful, it was just a happy idea of mine that I decided to use. I admit that I like them, I just don't consider them as a viable option in a tournament setting due to their relatively poor damage values. And the Serpent invaders are not glass-jawed. If they did happen to have a decent damage value, I think they would see a little more play.
I've found Swooping Snipers and Swooping Invaders not too shabby, but only the weak ones. Check out their stats. Good flight and attack, albeit low damage characteristic of the Shyft, and magic retaliation could really hurt an opponent's utility figure.
The thing they ride on is supposed to be a flying horse right? It looks kinda scrawney. I'm guessing they don't feed them so they will actually be able to get off the ground. And the wings look cool.
ONE OF MY POSTS GOT MORE THAN 4 REPS! WOOOOHOOOOO! That was fun. You are my new best friend man. I am infinitely lifted in visage and spirit by the knowledge of this joyfull information! May I enquire of the source from wich you have gained this all-vital shard of knowledge wich fills me with such puzzled aformation?
WK did realize the shyft did not quite work out as well as they hoped. They introduced them watered down to make sure they did not take over the game. They boosted them a bit by allowing full movement formations (the MS no longer have to be in base with the Shyft), and WK introduced a couple of LE's with higher damage as mentioned earlier. The next release will bring some more Shyft, but their exact abilities are not yet known (at least by me).
Actually the Shyft are going to see a resurgance....
On their own they are pretty lame, but if they make some of the regular figures like the conquest figures, then they will see more play. The funny thing is, with their ability to control Magespawn, they already make themselves very dangerous. A forced march formation of 4 werebears and Hamburglar is a very scary sight...
Too many people underestimate the Shyft.... these same people will woe the day they underestimated the shyft when the Magespawn they controll are gnawing on their bones
