I have read most if not all of the Posse posts. Now ready those posts struck me with an idea. I love the idea of swarming, overwhelming my opponent with shere numbers. The only problem is inorder to do this formations must be made, which can then be destroyed by F/L. So the key is Quickness. Quickness allows figures to move for free, not costing you actions. This effectively allows you to create a swarm army, without formations and then in turn not have to worry about F/L.
The only problem that I encountered with Posse armies is that they were centered around capturing opponents. Now this is great against certain armies, but not all. I would rather have ab army that can take out all armies, not just a certain type. I loved the Mancatchers 12 attack, but not thier 2 damage. So this led me to the Stalking Skeleton. Not only do I get Quickness but I also get Weapon Mastery and Dodge, not to mention it is all recyclable.
This then led me to the Zombie Baron. He allows me to resurrect my Skeletons, without fear of him getting whacked. He also adds some range, that can't be shot back at no matter what. So here is the army that I am thinking about using for my National Qualifier, let me know what you think.
Let me know what you think about this army. Should I even consider taking it to my Qualifier, or is it not worthy? Let me know what you think, and thanks for all and any comments that come this way.
F.Y.I. - The only stalking skeleton w/ weapon mastery is Marrow. The "regulars" only have dodge and quickness. This army looks like it could be competitive I may have to give it a try! Good luck.
Nightwitch instead fo the ZB. I know the ZB is a great fig but your main use is to necro freely with him. You are going to have to push him into his necro spot to use it. A nightwitch cost around 40 something pts meaning you can either pack 2 to keep the necro going or you could pack just one and get about another 2 stalking skeletons. The maint hing here is to overwhelm the opponent. If yo uget lucky with some dodge rolls it coudl be very ugle very quickly.
With a ** or *** nightwhitch one could get marrow and 5 stalking skeles**
Another option is running multipule Graverobbers for 38 pts you could get 2 GR***. Which allows you to set up 2 different necore pts on the board, room to push and allows you to lose of the figures and still be able to necro.
the problem with Nyx is she gets necro to far down in her dial ot be useful in this army.
Necro units fall into a few different groups
Costly: some may be worth it ( ZB) and some might be worthless ( Necromancer) because they cost soo much. I am not going to play Sunbain at lvl 5 70+ pts to have necro
Bad spot: Necro appears to deep in the dial so it is pt less to run the figure for the necro ability just about.
Workable: Grave robbers, Soul Stealers, maybe the nightwhitch
Good point. I keep forgetting that Marrow is the only one with Weapon Mastery, but that does not really matter. The regular Stalking Skeletons are great as they are, I really love the fact that they have Dodge and are recyclable.
barrel: On the topic of using multiple Graverobbers or Nightmwitches, it was a thought. I had actually considered using a Nightwitch or two and possibly adding another charger somewhere. The only problem is that if I downgrade him to Nightwitch, then I loose the 12 attack and 10 range. This is what the army was really lacking, which is why I choose the Zombie Baron.
I was trying an "out-of-the-box" type thinking with this army, using LI to its full with its compliment Dodge. So thanks for all the comments and keep them coming.
Trust me this army is good, but it does have a major flaw that just can't be overlooked. This thing is called auto damage. If someone is using a Pyre Spirit, considered yourself screwed. Not only will it knock your stalking skeles out of dodge, it could just basically kill n e thing and everything your army has to throw at it. The only figure that could POSSIBLY go toe to toe with him is the zombie baron because of his 12 attack. I'm just saying you might want to consider something else.
true Pyre would be a problem but there are ways of handleing such problems. i.e. he rams ZB the baron leveitates him to back arc of krug who smacks him for four. after that he loses ram and you can feel free to shoot him up with the ZB. and avoid basing him.
I think the ZB eats up too much points in this army Zaxan.
He represents too much points if his main activity is going to be : necroing.
The **Nightwitch at 41 points is a great choice
If you prefer a 9 attack on her, choose the red one for 43 points.
I do not agree with your statement though
that the Posse can take out only "certain types" of armies.
It's rather the other way around.
The Posse can take out MOST of the power armies today
but could run into trouble against rogue armies like Orc Swarms or Double HOST armies.
If the Posse gets lined up against AmaDrac, Khumeret, Bakus , Corpheus (yes , even the man himself ;)) etc it's in the driving seat.
The Stalking Skeleton strategy may work too
but still needs more tweaking and playtesting.
The Zombie Barons main job is not Necroing. It is to provide ranged support and attack, without the fear of striking back. I have thought about downgrading the Baron to Witch, drop the Krugg and add a Centaur Champion, but then I do not know what else to fill the points with.
True the Pyre can become a problem, but then again that is the only thing that seems to cause this army a really big headache. I can handle him many different ways, I can shoot him with the Baron (if positioned correctly), or I can ML his back arc into something either the krugg or if I am feeling lucky one of the Skeletons.
Thanks again for all of the comments, and I hope more are to come.
Wow man, i didnt even read your post before putting up my 200 Pt. necro version. lol, i guess great minds think alike. this was strike two to the idea that we are reading each other's minds.
