On a personal note, I've used Mage Cages for the last 6 or 8 months (I found them at GenCon last year), and I really like them. They are very expandable, and have a lot of options. They work well as displays as well. Overall these are nice cases, and I certainly personally recommend them.
Just quick a note about the Platinum Color, it does not come across well on the color sample. This is a shiny Silver color and looks pretty slick, kind of Game Boy Platinum with out the metallic.
The best display colors are likely to be the White and the Platinum in that they will provide the best contrast for the pieces.
Other colors are essentially taste related so each persons opininon weighs different.
They are realy cool, but the cost is just to much for my budget. I can get 2 1/2 tackle boxes for the cost of one unit.
I might want one or two for those special pieces, but if I tried to get enough for my collection (forget the 1.0 stuff which has been delegated to cardboard boxes at this point) I would have to sell my car.
But they do look a lot cooler than tackle boxes. :) If you cannot afford to buy enough to store your figures, you could buy a couple Mage Cages to use to transport your army to tournaments, for pieces you use regularly, or to display certain pieces and store the others in tackle boxes. I might do that.
these appear to hold the figures by the base sliding into a slot. if this is the case, how well will it hold the champions from omens, and does putting the figures in and taking them out affect the printing on the dial?
I bought some last year at Gencon (2 of them), and I havent had any problems with scratching on the top of my dials.
HOWEVER, I have used them quite a bit over the past 5 months, and the (teeth/fingers/clips/whatever you call them) spread out after frequent use, and the figures start to fall out.
I havent had any fingers break off yet, but if I tip my case forward, alot of my figures slide forward toward the clear front, and you have to be careful when you open it, or they will fall out all over. Just a warning, and they may have fixed it since then.
The new units also have been designed with thicker ribs to hold the pieces a little tighter and also avoid, we hope, the bending effect of time better. Only time will tell on that last plan but thicker ribs most likely lead to that as an obvious outcome.
Originally posted by Mustang Check the web sie but they are $12 plus for 1 unit and hold like 20 figures.
With some quick math I calculate that I'll only need about 300 of these to hold all of my figures.
Hmmm, let's see:
300 X $12 = $3600
Whoa, $3600 bucks!!! That's not bad.
Of course I could use that $$$ for other things: like a down payment on a house, or putting my kids through college, or a used car (Pacer maybe), building a rocketship for my own personal space program, I could always buy that pony my daughter always wanted...
or maybe a huge pile of Mage Knight!!!
WOW!!! 300, so you have 6000 pieces??? You are the ultimate collector. That comes out to 1500 boosters at 4 per box and $8 per booster (though I hope you bought some of those in bulk) You have spent $12000 on yoru collection but even if you bought your boosters at $4 each that is $6000.
Talk about a dedicated players you must have thousands of duplicates. I can definately see how replacing your current storage would be difficult not only in cost but space, what do you do with the 40 or so giant tackle boxes holding them now. I fee your pain.
