Two theories on the numbers printed on the shields
Hello Fellow Duelers,
I've been thinking for a long time about those mysterious numbers printed inside the shields on the characters equipment. Since Wizkids has so far been silent even in the prerelease rules I've decided to throw out a couple of my favorite theories.
Theory one: The number in the shield is added to the body stat of the figure so that if an attack using that color dice rolls above the body value plus the shield value the shield is negated. An example: Kyushi has a body value of 6 and a is wearing her vest which has a yellow shield with a "6" printed in it. Street Deacon is rolling a close combat attack against her. If his dice total 12 or less the shield reduces damage against her by 1 as normal. If he rolls 13 or more the shield is negated and he does his full damage.
Theory two: The shield would block a die of up to the value in the shield. In other words a yellow shield with a "6" in it would block one die of up to d6 value. A "4" would block up to d4.
I've come up with and playtested a lot of other theories using the promo figures and the above two seem to work the best. The give the shields value without making them overly powerful which would be in line with the shields low slot value.
I think the most likely rule will be that the vest will block damage of the dice type and color shown. So Kellan's vest would block the damage from a yellow d6 and a blue d4. This seems to be the simplest and most logical rule, and WizKids likes to keep things as basic as possible.
i have to agree with blocking the die type theory too. for instnance, if you're wearing a die that blocks a d6 and you git hit by a rocket, you're still gonna hurt.
And at least some damage must make it through on the other dice for aces to count, as far as my understand was. I'll check the rules again here in a bit.
plz do. Ace's are zero's when rolled but they do 1 clix of damage no matter what PLUS they have some kind of abitly that goes along with them, in the case of red d4's its one more clix of damage.
just to throw some more speculation into the ring, how about instead of blocking a specific die type (d4, d6) the shield blocked any die roll of that value or lower. so if your opponent rolls a yellow d12, you still have a 50% chance Kellan's vest will block it
