Anyone else feel like they're overdoing it with JLA?
Looking at the previews for JLA I get the feeling that this set is going to be a bit too much of a power jump over the current sets.
SO far I see Aquaman, Joker, Sorceror's Treasures, and HEro's Welcome to be over the top and just too powerful. After those IQ is really good and looks like he'll be going into Glee, Firestorm is clearly amazing, Hawkman is above power as is SUperman, and it looks like JLI will be good judging from Kooey Kooey Kooey and Black Canary.
I'll have to wait and see if any of these teams are good or not since all the teams in GL had standout cards but the teams themselves (besides the WIllpower team) sucked. Maybe they can kill the teams by making them diverge in focus much like Xmen or Arkham. Either way I'm sure that these cards will all be splashed into decks, especially Aquaman. How good is returning 3 cards to your hand in Sentinels? Hmmm... 2 recons and a beatdown Sounds good this turn....
MAybe they are just showing all the good cards now?
are you complaining about the cards being previewed that will give a person a reason for wanting to by JLA product?
There is nothign wrong with new cards being good, why woudl you want to kill the teams. Aquaman and Magneto will be debatable of who is the better 7 drop for CS, i still say magneto has the right stuff.
even if they were 'overdoing' it i guess no one would want to get another Web of Spiderman or Man of Steel kind of set.... so as long as the game doesn't lose the great balance it has...go ahead UDE.. OVERDO IT!!!!
Aquaman - If you have Garth on 5, how many characters do you get to hand by turn 7? 3 ... same as Aquaman gets on 7, and that's assuming you can keep out 3 characters going in to turn 7.
Joker - Umm ... Doom? More realiable ability [well, sort of], get to reuse a plot twist, has range, tons of support cards ... for -1/-1 [although Doomstadt puts him above the Joker defensively]
Hero's Welcome - Perhaps ... it's definately a powerful plot twist [don't need any JLA characters in hand or in play to play it ... just have to have the 2 cards you will be replacing ... assuming you search for only Allys ...] So either it's a costly JLA tutor or a limited JLA tutor [depending on how many get Ally of course]. It's not 'over the top' by other tutor standards though ...
IQ is a mini-AntiMatter Universe ... a card that even with Qward decks running tons of Shadow Creatures doesn't see play. Superman has a 1 point increase on his attack with a situational ally ability and a redundant leadership ability ... Hawkman is on curve statwise has a +1/+1 when equipped effect that a TON of other characters already has ... and his ally ability is like a mini-Arrisa ... but you still have to pay for it. Turn a power up into a copy of no fear [with +1D] isn't game breaking ... it's good though.
ST uses up the PT you reuse permanently ... so it's not like a Garth [play that card again every turn] type of thing ... sure you can use it earlier but getting to reuse a plot twist once isn't game breaking [it's using it muliple times that would be worrying.]
Kooey and Black Canary, etc ... are just showing that JLI might be a more 'developped' version of TNB ... with Kooey Cubed acting as a Genosha and compared to the 4 cards you can get when you drop Mags on 5 [which is often when you'd use Genosha] there isn't a huge balance difference.
Is JLA set going to be more powerful than say ... Superman? Yes.
More powerful than Origins? It might get close ... which is a good thing.
If we're going to grow the current format of Golden Age then yes, UDE is going in a great direction. JLI may be a team that can actually be successful in GA, moreso than TNB and GLEE. We will have to wait and see of course. Also, the cards previewed so far are good but WalterKovacs brings up some good points too. How is Hawkman overpowered? What I wish UDE would do is show more of the JLA support cards to see how this power-up non-sense really gels with the characters.
My concern is mostly based around the idea that if every set is better that the last then that means that every 3 months you need to invest in completely new cards or else you CANT compete.
I dont believe that this is the case so far but it seems more possible with each set.
Just looking at Avengers makes it seem possible. The recent 10k showed us 2 brand new decks in the Top 8 and theres better builds of each of those decks out there as well as a great Thunderbolts deck that didnt make the T8.
Titans, Sentinels, Doom, and Spiderfriends are all old teams to be sure but all but SpiderFriends are from Origins sets which have clearly been the high water mark so far. Maybe someday soon we'll be looking at a Metagame of only new teams which rotates every 3 months as sets come out.
I only half believe everything here, I'm just playing the what if game. The current 10k actually has me playing this game again which I havent enjoyed in months. I think Avengers was tremendous for the game, but I'd rather forget all about Green Lantern.
Hopefully JLA does for DC vs what Avengers did for Marvel and we start to get some real growth. Then again, maybe not.
every time we get previews, there's one of these threads. People said MOS was going to be too good after they saw Doomsday and the Source, and we all know how much of a powerhouse that set developed into (ugh, so bad). People always overreact to preview cards. Just wait until you see the whole set before judging anything, right now we have no idea how powerful the set will prove to be.

Well, we're like 4 sets past DC and Marvel Origins and nothing has really happened to the metagame since. WOS brought us the Mark V for Sentinels but what else from any of those sets has seriously impacted the game. Green Lantern wasn't bad and maybe there will be some cards from this set to improve GL based decks. I think the previews have been good, but other than the dual affiliation feature and Aquaman I'm really not overly wowed yet. The cards look good but we won't have any real indication until the pre-release.
The best thing to come out of this set so far is dual team affiliations. This should in theory take VS to a whole new direction. Dual team affiliation should be mandatory from this point on. It is something that should have been included from the beginning. It will make many cards and teams more playable. Also the game should flow better. IMHO.
If I got to pick ten cards out of a set to preview, I could make any set look ridiculous. Quite honestly, I haven't been too impressed with anything I've seen except 7-drop Aquaman and Sorcerer's Treasure. The new Joker is just bad. IQ is mediocre. 7 Supes is good but not great. Same with Lex. Kooey, Canary and Fire are dependent on their teams and support cards. Batman is only good for his good stats and depends on the support cards. Gorilla City is just a Doc Ock's Lab. Green Arrow's ability is OK on defense but otherwise not great. The cards we see here are cool-looking, but they're not all that good.
Yeah. It kinda sucks that dual affiliations and concealed weren't around from the beginning, and that Cosmic and Evasion have been mostly abandoned. These are the growing pains of a game, however.
The JLA set's cards previewed range in quality from decent to very solid. There's still no Dr. Light, Roy Harper, or Fizzle revealed yet, however. In short, this set's merely showing the strength of a good range of mid-high-quality cards. Compared to most other cards games ever made, this is very good. Worry if you must, but the Justice League is only following in the steps of the Avengers as the player base grows better at quickly adapting to the new tactics and playstyles required for some teams to work.
I have to agree with those that say dual-affiliations will probably have the most impact out of this set.
It alleviates the problem of limited legacy content while expanding new teams and game archetypes. It also allows for more player experimentation simply due to the increase in available characters for each slot and the ability to quickly set team-ups.
JLA seems to me so far to present a bright future on the horizon for this game.

If I were a betting man, I would bet that JLA will have a card like Quinjet that is common. Otherwise, Sealed is going to be very dull.
