Now that the PC is over, do we like straight Reservists or MJ's build more?
I have no idea which version is better. I am akin to MJ's build simply because I like tutoring, but at the same time there has to be some reason he went 10-0.
So far I prefer straight Reservists, but I've seen a build that runs Captain Marvel as the main five and She-Hulk as the backup five. That one seems pretty powerful.
The straight reservist deck tests strictly better in terms of, well, everything. It's stronger and more consistant. It had us scared for a while, and was the deck that stopped us from playing our GLEEvil (we were willing to take chances vs MJ's version, where we were just under 50/50).
Karl Brown is a genius, and poured a lot of time into that deck. I was personally glad to see people knocking it, mostly because it meant that some people may overlook it. But the UK 10K top 8 was far stronger and more telling than the American one.
I prefer the straight reservist build and I've been playing with it for quite awhile (i.e. well before its well publicized success at multiple 10Ks).
I tested MJ's build and I didn't like how it performed when compared to the straight reservist build. Your (and I suspect MJ's as well) mileage may vary.
Having played reservists at the PC and having my teammate and I (Aaron weil) take it to a combined record of 17-3 (he was the 10-0) I think the straight reservists build is better. Jacob's build can be very flexible and when it clicks on all pistons it is amazing. However the straight reservists strategy Bown (no r) build, is much more consistent and has a word I don't like to use unless it really warrants it - Synergy. Aaron and I made the call to put in the System Failure's as a metagame decision. Would I run the same build tomorrow? Absolutely not, but Aaron is writing an article on it and I do not want to give all the tech away.
