Amazizng Spider-Stall Top 8's PCQ 1-8-06 King's Games
First off I'd like to give Alex at King's Games props for running a great event as always. There we over 60 participants I believe, which was the biggest turn out I've seen for a constructed PCQ.
is there anyway we can see a deck list of some sort, im a big spidey player myself and work with the deck constantly so it would be cool to compare ours i understand if your keeping it under wraps for a larger tournament. and congratulations on doing well with spidey
captain cuba...can you tell me your aol or aim sn..pm it to me or something...it is me eugene ziskin, i played squadron and went 5-4, cause of bad draws..but you would have beat me any ways...nice job...(thinking to myself*(i knew i should have played AGL/Felix Faust))
Personally this was my very first constructed tournament. What did I see? A lot of Squadron Swarm. A bunch of straight Injustice Gang and Injustice Doom. Besides that I personally went against Titans, New School, and Common Enemy. I was one of two (or possible three) Green Lantern.
I was very happy with my first time out in constructed. I went 6:3. Considering I have never put together a tournament worthy constructed deck I think that's pretty good.
People seemed to be really worried about the Squadron Swarm decks, but they were the easiest for my team to beat. They are so top heavy they burn themselves out way too early and if you can just hold on a little you've got the game.
I personally was afraid of the Injustice Gang/Doom decks. Injustice Gang alone was scary, but in the end it didn't matter if they hit Luthor3/Joker4/Scarecrow5 combo because for as much endurance they were burning me for by turn 5 I was just gaining almost that much back with Katma Tui. Once again they seemed to be a one trick pony. They didn't have any real heavy hitters and all they did was give me way too many cards to use to pump with my Martian Manhunter.
Martian Manhunter: If he came out I did not lose. In fact in sealed or constructed or themed if I have gotten him out the game was over. I have never gotten him out and lost. Period.
In the end my losses were to New School, Common Enemy, and Titans. I messed up with the Titans early on and if I hadn't who knows where it would have gone. I've never liked that deck for the pure reason of all the pumping. It just get's confusing and annoying after awhile. You can't keep track. The Common Enemy I lost to because I missed my 1, 2, 4, and 5 drops. The New School creamed me because of Reign of Terror. Yuck.
Over all I had my ups and my downs at this PCQ. One technicality left me with a loss (I accept it and it was my fault in the first place) and one gentleman was such a nice player that he told me a story about a friend of his who made up a character for a fantasy type game based on my own real name (it's Chance by the way). It still went to prove that I will always prefer to play people who are kind and considerate and not looking to absolutely win and be a jerk about things. I heard some others state similar things about players. I guess no matter what tourny you go to 1 out of every 10 players will do whatever it takes to win and just not be that cool of a person to you. Whatever. I still had fun and I don't blame anyone for my mistakes. It was really nice to play a lot of people who were cool and just liked to have fun playing.
Overall I placed 14th and I was very happy with that since it was my first PCQ. It would have been nice to have come out of it with something, but there's always a next time. At least I know what to look forward to so I actually know how to build a deck in the first place.

Did you run a GL curve deck? I have been working on a GL deck. What do you run for your 3 and 4 drops? Do run boosted Olapet at 3?
WHAT DID I TELL YA.. EUGENE..I WAS GONNA GO TO KG AND REPRESENT NEUTRAL WITH MY NET DECK (WITH SOME CHANGES), AND BEAT ALL THE OTHER NET DECKERS!!HAHA . MY SQUD DECK WAS THE BEST.. WELL.. NOT THE BEST THERE.. I DIDNT TOP 8.. BUT I DID COME IN 9TH.... CLOSE ENOUGH.... SOO THATS 2ND BEST.. SO I THINK I'M DONE WITH SQUD NOW.. AND GONNA TAKE AGL/FROST DECK FOR A RUN...I'M SURPRISE THAT DECK DIDNT TAKE IT ALL.. I HAD TO PLAY ONE ON THE NINTH ROUND.. I ONLY ONE BECAUSE I HAD HAWKEYE (4DROP)..... SO WHAT WAS EVERYONES THOUGHEST MATCH UP AT THE PCQ..... FOR ME WAS GLOCK.. I HAD TO PLAY 3 GLOCK DECKS...I LOST TO THE FIRST ONE (THANKS ADAM, YOU TRAITOR.. YOU SUPPOSE TO RUN SQUAD!).. THE ONLY REASON I WON THE OTHER TWO GLOCK DECKS.. BECAUSE MY OPPONENTS FORGET TO RESPOND TO A TEAM ATTACK WITH JOYSTICK EQUIPED WITH A THUNDER JET AND SONGBIRD ON SINESTRO..WITH KAMA TU (5DROP) ON THE FIELD.. WHICH PRETTY MUCH COST THEM THE GAME ( EXCEPT FOR ADAM, WHO TOP DECKS A SECTOR.. AND COME FROM -4 TO 2 ENDURANCE AND THEN TOPS DECK A TWOFACE!!)...SOO YA BAD TIMES.. I WENT 6-3 LOSING TO GLOCK ,AND TWO COMMON ENEMY...
Hey Novus. I wound up putting in two Jades and two Tomar Res for 3 drops and 3 Olapets besides Kyle Rayner for 2 drops. In the end Jade was useless to me. I used her power once out of nine games. I put Tomar Re in there because the friggan' alien has 6 defense and not such a bad ability if you really need it. Since I've gotten home though I've changed this deck a bit. I've put 4 Olapets in to use him as the three drop. When I got 4 characters out by turn 3 using his boost, the game usually went my way especially when I would drop 2 to 3 light armors on them and I was just blasting away. So I have 3 Kyle's in there for the two drop along with 2 Tomar Tu (in case I miss Kyle). Tomar Re and Jade are gone now. The only other changes I made were that I added one more of G'nort (3 of each 1 drop to hit them) and I got rid of Parallax. It didn't dawn on me that Martian Manhunter needs no other assistance when facing his enemies. Parallax and Zero Hour were either just boosts when Manhunter came out or completely useless card space. They too went out.
