if you were UDE's overlord, what would 2008 hold for Vs?
Everyone wants to see their favorite teams eventually tackled in the near future, but as a UDE employee, you have to balance desire with the general fanbase, and what THEY want. So, what would your lineup be?
To make this more than just a "I want x-force they roxxxx" thread, list WHY you think the set should include your teams. Remember that all the teams in the set SHOULD revolve around each other somehow as well. And refeatures are a must! My picks:
Marvel set 1:
Marvel Knights refeatured
Crime Lords refeatured
The above two are pretty obvious. If MK isn't refeatured in the second Marvel set next year, they will HAVE to bring them back in 2008, as it contains some of Marvel's biggest names, and needs a refeature. Along with MK, you need their enemies, and Crime Lords are in dire need of an overhaul as well.
S.H.I.E.L.D
Hydra
Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D have been itching to get in the game for a while now, and I think they'd round out the set nicely. Of course, that means you NEED Hydra!
Sub-team: Hulk
I've been dying for a Hulk one-man army team for years, and there would likely be more than enough room to squeeze him in, with S.H.I.E.L.D and Hydra both being mainly Army-based teams. HULK NEED OWN TEAM!
DC set 1:
JLA refeature
Secret Society refeature
DC is a bit tougher as far as new sets are concerned, because as far as I know, there just isn't as much to introduce as there is for Marvel. But the JLA are DC's premiere team and has a changing roster, so bringing them back, as well as their rivals, is an easy choice.
Brotherhood of Evil
Okay, DC Vs. is missing the big gorilla and his pet brain. And it's the only big villian team I can think of that hasn't been introduced already. So, who to oppose them? Their main enemies, the Teen Titans and Outsiders by proxy, are already showing up in the next set, and the set after, so it would likely be too soon to reintroduce them, though the case could be made that the Titans have enough content to allow it. Thoughts?
Sub-team: Seven Soldiers
Morrison's SS books have been awesome, and would be a really cool sub-team for the set. Most of the characters haven't been in the game as of yet, so they'd be ideal.
Marvel set 2:
X-Men refeatured (in the form of X-Factor and Excalibur)
The X-Men are big sellers, and two and a half years will have gone by since the last X-set. I would bet handsomely on seeing them again in 2008. But people want the other X-teams, not just new content for the X-Men, so bringing in X-Facotr and Excalibur, with heavy emphasis on dual-affiliation with the X-Men, kills two birds with one stone.
Shi'ar
The Brood
The X-Men have enough enemies that refeaturing their old ones, like the Brotherhood and Hellfire Club isn't necessary. Instead, dragging their old space-faring rivals into Vs. would a much better match for the new set.
Sub-teams:
Sentinels refeatured
Weapon X/Plus
Okay, I know I said refeaturing their old enemies wasn't necessary, but come on, Sentinels! They don't need a full team, but a few new robots would be fun. And Weapon X is just cool, and barring waiting for an Alpha Flight set, this is the best place to feature them.
DC set 2:
Here, I'm at a blank, except for a full refeature set. Who could be introduced that would actually be worth basing a set around?
The team name should be Weapon Plus though, even if it is just Weapon X characters.

The Brotherhood of Evil should be in the game, but the trick is the name. Can't just call them "Brotherhood", that's already taken.
And if you have the BoE, you NEED Doom Patrol.
Once again, my response (and some other people's) to all of this stuff is in the threads linked to in my signature.

yeah, with a banner who has a hulk search feature when stunned :P
thanks for ignoring the part where I asked for reasons, but it doesn't matter since McFarlane probably wouldn't let Spawn in anyway. At least we can hope not (sorry guys, but Spawn sucks!)

When comes to Spawn there are no reasons because Spawn is SPAWN!

it's kinda funny because 90% of the people who worship Spawn have never touched a Spawn comic, and just know him from the toys and the various cartoons and movie and as Image's flagship title when Image was the cool thing to like, and think he's SUCH A BADASS! When he really isn't that cool and fizzled after like a dozen issues of his book.

- JLA (New team featured)

Wow, are we running out of new stuff??? Is 2008 the last year for VS?
CW and Annihilation are both things I'd like to see, but don't know exactly where they'd fit in set-wise. CW could replace the next Avengers revamp (which is almost guaranteed either late next year, or 2008), but Annihilation is an entirely different concept, and probably couldn't hold a set on its own until they revisit the HoG teams, which is probably a while off. They won't just wedge an Annihilation team in somewhere, however much I'd like them to. NA will be in whatever Avengers rerelease they do, and YA is too small to be its own team (like Runaways), but could get combined with the latter some time in the future. I'd like to see them too, but again, as the UDE overlord, you have to make the teams both fit in the set design, AND have marketability.
As far as 2008 being the last year, unless the game dies off there's still plenty to do in the comic world. They could easily go to sets of 3 rehashes/1 new team if they wanted, and there enough smaller teams to warrant that approach.
Q3 2k7: SHIELD!
*SHIELD -Marvel's NO.1 group of superspies. We get our Nick Fury and friends, plus, who wouldn't want to play those funky Helicarriers?
*HYDRA -Marvel's NO.1 group of terror cultists! With AIM as a sub-team, we'd finally get some classic villains like the Red Skull, MODOK, Arnim Zola, and Grim Reaper. Maybe some Cosmic Cube action, too.
*Avengers
*Masters of Evil
*Thunderbolts
They should be ready for refeaturing at this point, and tie into the main two teams pretty well.
Q4 2k7: The Flash!!
*Speed Force -We've already recieved one card from the Speedster team, so here's our chance to get everyone else.
*Rogues -Who knows why Flash's enemies are getting so entertaining these days. However, we can't have the Speed Force without them, can we? Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, Zoom, Mirror Master, Gorilla Grodd, and many more await.
*Gorilla City -A mini-team, but it all the better that it's a mini-team filled with apes. Plus, it is a very important part of the DCU. We could see diverging themes with both Solovar and the peaceful apes as well as Grodd and his cronies.
*Green Lantern
*Emerald Enemy
The Flash and Green Lantern were both re-introduced at the same time, planting the seeds of the silver age. It seems fitting to refeature the Green Lanterns in this one.
Q1 2k8: Young Guns!
*New Warriors -They were a major Marvel team in the 90s...not exactly the most glorious era, but I still think they deserve some representation.
*Young Avengers
*Runaways
Both mini-teams, but both are really cool, and fit the theme.
*Marvel Knights
*Crimelords
Well, they need to be refeatured eventually. This was the closest thing I could tie to them.
*???? - I can't think of any other teams to go in here...suggestions?
Q2 2k8: Young Justice!
*Young Justice -Alot like the Titans, but they're not! They really aren't! Well, atleast the Titans were never written by Peter David, atleast I don't think so. Despite similarities, they could be made different.
*Doom Patrol -The outcasts, and stars of some of the my most favoritetist comics ever (Grant Morrison's issues, BTW). If they could make them as bizarre in the game as possible, go for it!
*Brotherhood of Evil -Bizarre heroes require bizarre villains, and this team is quite bizarre, being led by a Brain in a jar and a beret-wearing gorilla who have a very 'special' relationship. They'd be a Kang-sized team, and would quite fun.
*JLA
*Secret Society
The JLA needs to be refeatured at this point. The Secret Society make up their rival team. Nuff said.
Q3 2k8: X-Force
*X-Force -Would take up Cable's team and the New Mutants. Probably the biggest offshoot of the X-Men, although they also debuted in the terrible 90s.
*Mutant Liberation Front -Probably the best bet for an Anti-X-Force. There's enough material to fit a team.
*X-Factor -The 'Outsiders' of the set, I just want them to be made very badly, it will make 2008 'the year of Peter David' (too bad no Hulk, though...)
*X-Men
*Brotherhood
They can't let Marvel's cash cows stay out of the loop forever, ya' know.
Q4 2k8: Wonder Woman
*Amazons -The last of the 'Big 3' not to get her own team, yet, Wonder Woman probably should at this point.
*Villainy, Inc. -The required WW villain team. It probably contains some of the most lacklustre enemies ever, but whatever.
*JLI
*Villains United
Wonder Woman was a member of the JLI! And the Villains United guys just seem to fit well enough to be a second villain team.
*Doom Patrol -The outcast, and stars of some of the my most favoritetist comics ever (Grant Morrison's issue, BTW). If they could make them as bizarre in the game as possible, go for it!
Even More Support for Doom Patrol! :)

Having all of these teams in one set without anything else seems a little too redundant in my opinion. I'd probably drop either X-Force or X-Factor (because seriously, that'd be three X-teams featuring in the same set, not to mention the possible X-Statix legacy) for Weapon Plus (also mutant, and very cool).
Also, Mutant Liberation Front is a bit too close to Brotherhood in feel not to mention the overlap, so I don't know if they need their own team affiliation - they coould probably just be a "shared version". Dropping them out would allow you to maybe give some larger Sentinel legacy (They still haven't made a Sentinel William Stryker) or throw in another team of choice ... maybe Alpha Flight?
Here's a list of existing DC teams that I think could realistically see print. Some villain teams will have to be created in the same way they did with Emerald Enemies.
Heros
Freedom Fighters
Infinity, Inc.
Omega Men
Suicide Squad-Heros in the vein of Marvels Thunderbolts or Freedom Force
