I was reading the IGN review of the Marvel Trading Card game, and the author, an IGN editor named Hilary Goldstein (it's a male), makes the following statement:
"Upper Deck's Vs. system is inferior to Magic, Munchkin and Pokemon, but is still enjoyable."
Now as experienced CCG players we know this statement is erroneous especially in the context of Munchkin and Pokemon, but my question to the community is the following: Do casual players of CCG's or non-CCG players who pick up the PSP game and think about trying the real thing really think that Pokemon, Yugioh, etc. are better than VS? What do we do to combat this perception? Discuss.
IGN is biased to anything not obvious to say perfect (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, etc.) as in "crap."
It's actually one of the worser choices to pick up on reviews and previews of games, though in general it's a biased system. Gamestop has a better and broader staff of players.
And Pokemon? I think most people are comparing the game back in the old days of Mr. Mime--->Blastoise--->100 atk Charizard. Not the Pigeot--->Neo Mew OTK style that have seen better days.
Magic has 10 years of history. Messing with them is like messing with the unified might of Star Wars, Star Trek, and LoTR fans in one swipe.

I don't understand a word of this.
Well, I understand "worser."
Please, use a dictionary.

Munchkin is an awesome game that allows for all the fun of a roleplaying game with none of the messy roleplaying. You are trying to min/max your character to level 10 by beating monsters. It's tricky to describe accurately, but it's amazingly fun. I don't think it's a CCG, though, it's a stand-alone card game.
non-collectable card game. its a role-playing card game that involves absolutely no role-playing. its a blast to play. me and some friends bust it out every once and a while.
Wow. As an English Major, you'd think I'd be annoyed. But I'm not. Seriously, this is an internet message board, people are going to speak how they speak. Get a life.
I like the VS mechanic over Magic, WoW and spoils (which personally i feel are all too similar). The only real problem with VS is its complexity.
You take a game like yugioh which has a terrible mechanic, the rules basically change from card to card. However the game itself is SOOOO easy to play it brings players in by the hundreds. I can teach someone to play yugioh in 15 minutes. No way i can do that with VS.
I think at its core thats the problem. VS simply has the best, strongest mechanic to date. The difficulty to enter the game is the only thing keeping new players away.

This has to do with people in general. Most people like to skip instructions and jump right into it. This includes myself. With VS you can't do this. You actually need to read a rule book to play this game and be good at it. It took me almost two weeks before I understood the vital aspects of the game. I'm still learning new stuff all the time.
Most people won't set down and play a game for two weeks just to get the basics down. They want a game they can learn in 30 minutes to an hour. Then build a deck and start playing. So far VS is the only game that I know of with this high of a learning curve. I was able to learn the basics of Magic, Pokemon, Yugioh and Wow in a day.
I hate to say it. But I've played both pokemon and vs and to tell the truth. Pokemon was fun. It may have been my age at the time. But the pokemon card game was a blast.
For some people, easier is better. In Magic you can always throw up your hands and say you got mana screwed, and you may be right.
In VS System, I can always come back to a play I made or mismade to realize why I won or lost. That's even true ag'st Quickfate, and some of the more fair Dr. Light builds in the day.
