I do love the sound of my own voice, and talking about myself. and confusing people with my dyslexic grammas :p So I thought Id take this chance to talk about my first experiance of competitive play in the uk.

We spend allot of time in florida. in kissimmiee to be precise, theres a struggling hobby league, 8-12 people depending on how much their pushing WoW. the same goes for ygh which is on the same night. I saw one of their tornies, their where thousands it seemed, of pint sized players. If this was UDE in tournie mode then rock on!

So flash forward to today, I was full of unpliant hope and joy for what might well be the best Vs experiance of my life. Ive got off the tube station hot and sweaty, a poor concotion of Syn-Sin-Spy-Finds in my hands (as I call them) I cobbled together from my limited collection of MTU, not enough, not enough of anything. Curses. but I dont inten dto win just enjoy myself, just play. In the UK. With people who arnt my brothers, I dont need to say how much the prospect excites me.

I enter the grand fronting of the county hotel, it beautiful. and I can see my people, my heart raises in my chest, deck binders and UDE deck boxes! And then it sinks. Not one above 12 years old. Well appart from that special needs grouping at one end of the room apparently form an undefeatable bastion of gaming prowess, lording their domain over the more logicaly robust kids.

I sit in a corner and write out a deck list... and a realisation comes to me, I push past the madding crowd, stomping on a few of the slower ones. gits. flushed and worried I find a rotund tomato of a man, with quivering jowels.

"Vs?"
"no theres no pokemon here-"
"VERSUS. you know the multi-million dollar, international game that holds liscences to the two biggest comic book production houses in the world, plus hellboy, with over 1200 cards over a dozen sets, Vs"

Fortunatly for her Ive taken my medication today. I rip his jowely face off, nail her to the ground and set on fire, all the time doing the mexican hat dance in a circle around her screaming flesh. I felt better.

I pick up my stuff and begin to take my leave. on the way out I see a flash of card, something vaugely familiar. I eventualy find 4 people in the hotel bar playing Vs. One smells. One has mottled skin tone. one seems normal, one is uber skinny.

I introduce myself. With fanfare, It takes dancers and ballons and streamer. They seem impressed or at least amused.

They explain that the event runners dont have any mats, only EA superman and fires. and only a box of X-men as a reward. and that instead of playing for packs they would simply split the box 5 ways.

I sit and play a half dozen games ouf round robin. I come last. This I expected. Eventualy Normo comes to play me. He sounds like a farmer, I tell him to stop it. he says hes from yorkshire. I try to play, but any time he says anything a creeping insanity edges its way in from the edges of my mind.


Arrgghhh!!!!!!! he was soooo f'ing funny :laugh: I dont think we was impressed. poor buggar. hes probably gonna hit me

And that was really it.....

I dunno. It was pretty rubish. like a hobby league but without people..... hmmmm. will I do it again?

Hopefully, once I find some local players, things won't be quite as disorganised as that sounded. Though to be honest, it's one thing the Brits are good at, disorganisation.:cool:

I'd have been there Saturday but was helping friends move house. Not that it would have helped your record or oppinion of us Brits ;)

The monthly tournaments don't attract any more players than a Tuesday evening because there's nothing special about them. I'm hoping we'll get the Elite Series thing because that'd give people a reason to travel.

I know the group of players you are talking about. They are nice, friendly guys (from my own experiences). Obviously, you must be a perfect human specimen - if you're comfortable of being so critical of others. Good luck trying to get a game there again - I'm sure they appreciate your comments.

bah! If I cant turn normal likeable people into amusing charactures for to make a story better then well, then, it would have been a boring story.

Besides which. These people are my saviours. Vs players. In the UK. Ive spent too much money to mention on tube tickets and parking and maps and hours on the net looking for a real hobby league, so dont think I dont apreaciate their mere existance more than you can imagine. nuff said.



(PS:Sorry if I offended anyone, I wrote this on the emotional end of the evening of the TotF and it may well be an unedited and uncensored. And I do look forward to playing with these people again. An no Kazima I am not a perfect example of humanity.)
