Simple question Everyone here knows me or of me.
I'll tell you why I post this question. I'm finding keeping this game alive out here in the east coast.I like having a third Job and It's not fun for me to keep it going anymore if people are just going to bring the most Broken deck they can build to a Casual HL Event. Now if I quit that about 6 other people will quit too just because I quit and that will leave about 3 people in the Massachusetts area. OK I'm not happy:cry:    posting this but It's on my mind and I want to know what you think I should do? At the end of the month I will tally up all the votes and that will be my fate. Peace.
Thats a poor reason to quit. You shouldn't quit a game you enjoy playing.
Did you read what I said It's becoming a 3rd job for me to keep it going around here kid. Every event I go to Someone has a reallllllly stupid broken deck so No I'm not enjoying it right now.

so then quit. id imagine the six others that quit because of your departure will be balanced out by the 12 that start up just because they don't have to listen to the dyslexic garbage man complain about playing aganst "broken" decks.
Aceswolf,
I can't say I know you but from what I see in your sig it looks like you are a shop owner or at least connected to a shop of some kind. If the reason you want to quit is because of broken-like decks being played in casual environs then I would suggest that you lay down some house rules in regards to what can and cannot be played in a specific event. This is certainly the shops perogative as far as i see it, unless this would lose the event it's sanctioning.
I hope you reconsider quiting this great game, even if you end up just playing on your kitchen table with the wifey.
The RP had some nice prizes. People should be able to bring competitive decks. Save the non-feature tournaments for more casual play. If I'm playing a highly competitive or tier 1 deck, I tell all my casuals in advance. I even say, "Look, if this deck crushes, please don't be discouraged. This is a highly competitive fully synergized deck." Set the expectation level so they don't get their spirit crushed.
I think the same could have been done before your RP tourny. A simple, "Okay guys, there are some nice prizes and people may be playing some pretty mean decks for this tournament, so please understand if you run against a highly competitive deck. The more casual play will resume on the next HL night."
Edit: Pardon me, akugyaku, do you have any grey poupon?
And unless your sharing that scotch, which better be named Glenlivet, with me then I vote you shall continue eating mustard.
I always bring two decks to casual game nights one competitive and one just for fun (I know this wont work in tournament scenarios but it is just an option for people in your area) That way I can play a competitive game if someone wants to.. or I can just play a fun more casual game depending on my opponent. Crushing n00bs is not good for the game and being crushed because you didn't bring a deck to deal with a tier one deck is no fun either.
So bring one of each
We've all been there Aces. But I think maybe you should take a break. It gets to us all sometimes. Do something else you enjoy then come back and play some games with friends...just for fun. Next set hop back, build an uber broken deck, put it in the hands of your newest players and let them smash the best in this business. Heck if they were the one's running Kole's last laugh would they have hated it? Don't arm the new kids with knifes when you bring them to a gun fight. I know you don't want to hear this, and I'm not bashing you in any way, its just that you can't expect people to try to perform at a level lower than their best. I play against the best in the game, and I never want them to bring anything but their A-game, and their A-deck to a game, because I want to be tested to the highest level. It is how we learn and improve.
And I know this game can be like work, its so hard and good it is work to do well. So is any other competitive event, sport, game. I'm just saying it happens, take a break come back better, don't let your hobby overwhelm you, step back and then step back in swinging.
Remember even the Pilgrams didn't get off the ship at first landing, so don't give up you'll find your Rock.
Aces, you cant expect people to show up for the closest thing we have to a competitive constructed event, without a competitive deck. People play competition to win, and its fun for them to win, just like religion you cant force your play style or reasons for playing on someone else. Everyone has their own. Separate the Marquee events from hobby night, don't expect people to bring jank to the marquee, you can have the best of both worlds. Don't make it your one man mission to "save" vs in your area. You have people to play with, play with them and enjoy the game, you don't have to go to every event within 200 miles. You will find that you enjoy the game more if you don't get so stressed out about it! So for my vote, keep playing vs, but don't make vs your life.:)
The point of the game is to build the best deck isn't it? If the people at the HL are bringing broken decks...fix them. Build something that destroys those decks and make them reconsider.
