Everyone plays Common Enemy. I played 9 games. All 9 were against different people, and different Common Enemy decks with varying levels of complete-ness.
I was trying to show my friend the online game to get him into VS... but all we got were losses a la Common Enemy. He's not interested, and I wish I could show off how many decks and cards there are... but...
If it is not Common Enemy, it is New Brotherhood. I was a strong supporter of the online game, but left when the matches became overly repetitive. I am more interested in the real game where the number of cards tripple, and you can have a bit more variety.
well if you are interested in playing something other than common enemy i have. doom/moe, hellfire, x mental, fantastic fun, x faces, tnnb, sin syn, curve sentinels and a pretty mean multiple man deck. my account is sniktsnikt there too and if you pm me we can set up a time to play a few games in the practice room.
i also have squadron no-hand which i can throw together though im missing few other-earths and rocket centrals.
the game has lots of problems. its unfortunate the game was not released closer to when versus launched so it could change with the real life game. its playing catch up now and i doubt it will catch up.
still i have lots of fun playing in the practice room and sometimes you can get a even match in the ranked room.
A brotherhood deck. Not a archetype by any means, as I only bought 24 packs and split them between several sets. Its a flawed deck, and I mainly won due to a bad draw... :-/
if possible i highly recommend concentrating on one set. avengers set is the best if you dont plan on investing heavily as you can build several competetive decks with the avengers set. you can try your luck with origins and x men and try to score beatdowns and enemy but thats a total crapshoot and the decks you build from those sets require a steeper investment.
The Meta isn't that bad, its just that only now have people been able to play common enemy. Doom used to be bugged so when the patch was released everybody was eager for a chance to play him. There's still a bunch of common enemy but not as bad as it was a few weeks ago. Morlocks, X-faces, Brotherhood, Curved sentinel, Crimelords, Avengers, multipleman, and Common Enemy are all decks I've played against the past week, so The meta isn't as bad as you guys make it out to be.
Read Snikt's post, The people behind the game are incompetent morons (6 months to release a patch? only being able to trade 3 cards at a time? no trade binders? No way of knowing who's inside the game room?) but if you can get past all that its a pretty fun game. My hope is that Konami can get their act together eventually.
If there's no one around you who plays Vs then Marveltcgonline is a great way to play but if you have a working hobby league MarvelTCGonline can't compare.

The patch only affects online play, right?

I find the AI to be unforgivably bad. I wasn't expecting expert play, but it makes obviously stupid mistakes that I can't believe. I'm talking about things like playing a plot twist to give its whole team an attack bonus... when it has no characters that can attack that turn. Konami really turned out a half-a$$ed product and I really don't see them being able to repair the situation at all.
No, but its not as big of a deal in single player. You never face the broken cards and the AI is so laughably bad you don't need to exploit broken cards to win.
Btw, truth be told there is no patch. with the exception of the movies and the executable file, everything is zipped up in a proprietary format. Therefore in order to get version 1.1 you must re-download the entire game.

Yeah, the game does some pretty stupid stuff and I don't think that ever will get fixed. Writing A.I. is difficult, even more so because each deck plays completely different (though having different AI's for each deck would help immensely instead of just 1 AI for all decks like it is now) but I don't think all is lost.
Supposedly this is the first time the game developers have done anything like this, and if they actually listen to the list of complaints, then hopefully MarvelTCG2 or DcTCG will be much better.
Well, the game does have its ups and downs. Personally, I think it's great that the game even made it to an online format with a big company sponsor. I don't know if you all have noticed...but UDE is crapping out on its support almost daily. Did anyone go to GenCon Indy? It was a dying game. It's been yanked from the Inquest price guide without warning or explanation. The prices of the cards have nose dived. I know I'm all over the place, but this game has a special place in my heart. I've been a member of this site for God knows how long...I used to trade the real cards ALL THE TIME. The online version affords me the same (albeit limited) joy. It's got its flaws, trust me. I'm very critical of it...but if you love the game, as I do, there's no reason to at least not give it a shot. That's my 2 cents.
