My name is CJ Curl and I just wanted to share my experiences from Worlds. I went with two friends of mine one of them being eg7586 who also has a post about his Worlds experience on here. My awesome experience at Worlds really started about a week and a half or so before the event began. eg7586 and I were on our way home from playtesting with a few other guys when he was still wondering on what to play. I had decided to play Hulk Beatdown already, but he wasn't quite sure. We had a solid Marvel Knight deck put together that we were looking at playing, but he really wanted to play Family of Four. The version we had together wasn't testing real well against what we had, and we weren't sure what to do with it. I had decided that I would take a chance and try to get to help from Carlos the Dwarf with Family of Four. When I got home I sent Carlos a PM asking for his help. I'm not sure what kind of response I was expecting, but the response I got was surprising. Carlos not only sent me some suggestions for the deck, but the list that we ended up going with.
So now that we had decided on what to play it was time to shuffle up. Hulk proved pretty good for me as I ended up going 4-1 through five rounds. At that point my only loss was to Glen Viernes who was also playing Hulk. In round six I played and lost to Jacob Gillham and his Shield Army. After losing in round 7, I ended the day 4-3 and in day two. One of my friends droped after getting his 4th loss of the day and the other one (eg7586) started the day 1-3. He then rallied and won his next two games, and going into round 7 he was 3-3. I was hoping he would pull out his next game and we would both play in day two. At the same time I was hoping for another win so I would end up 5-2. I ended up getting beat by another Hulk deck in around 7 and went 4-3. After my match, I found my buddy and he informed me that he had won his match. So we both ended the day at 4-3. We were excited that we would both be playing in day 2, that was after all our goal in going. Then it hit us, we hadn't drafted any of the set yet. We decided to go try and find a box of MUN to try and get a feel for drafting the set. We found a box and headed back to the hotel room.
We arrived Saturday morning hoping that we would open good things and just hoping not to get blown away in the drafts. Going into the day, we had decided to play all six games no matter what happened. After the first draft pod I thought I had a solid deck put together. I was soon hit with reality and proceeded to go 0-3. My buddy was 1-2 with a bye. We could really tell who had drafted with the set and who had not. We were so worried about the constructed part that we didn't practice the draft. It came back to bite us. In draft 2, I just tried to have fun with it and draft some fun stuff. I ended up rare drafting somewhat, but after opening a Righteous Anger in pack 2 decided to try Hulk. I did ok with him on Friday, I'll live or die with Hulk on Saturday. So I tried to put a solid Hulk together. I had a bye for round 11, so I would have to wait a round to see how my draft Hulk would perform. In round 12 I put Hulk to the test and it ended up proving ok, as I pulled out the win with the help of Negetive Zone, Harvester of Sorrows to bring be from 0 to 2 on turn 6. Before I talk about round 7 I have to tell a little story.
Early in day 1 I played against Glen Viernes. During day 1 we would keep up on how each other were doing. On day 2 we would do the same and we talked about our Hulk decks everything. I took his picture with Pokemon and just kinda hung out all day. As the pairings were going up for round 13, Glenn walked past me and said that he'll see me at table 8. So I was 6-6 trying to finish 7-6, but to do so I was going to have to go through a guy who had beaten me on day 1 and then got to know over the weekend. As we sat down I heard my name from the announcer and we had a feature match.
The link to that feature match is right here: http://www.vsrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59738
As you can see, I lost to Glen in round 7. I can't say I was happy losing and going 6-7 for the weekend, but I couldn't have lost to a better guy.
Overall the weekend was great. I met some really cool people (Glen and Carlos), I didn't make too many play mistakes over the weekend, I played an amazing game with some amazing players, and my buddy and I made day 2. I want to thank Carlos for mentioning me on VSSystem.com after day 1 as one of the new blood. It was cool for my buddy and I to be mentioned in the same sentence as some of the best players in the game. I want to congratulate everyone who made day 2. I also want to congratulate everyone who made top 8. Congratulations to Brian Eugenio for winning the whole thing. Hopefully I can make it to more VS events to play this amazing game.
since he's not online ... the vendor exactly on the opposite side of the wall as the UDE podium was selling them at 80 a box until saturday, when they wised up and changed it to 90. I bought 4 boxes from them while it was at 80, and they 'prolly had a case or two.
they actually had 3 places selling box's over the weekend that I saw since I was with 3103 one had them at 99 one had them at 90 and the other at 85 that was on fri. when we bought it.
yeah...we found them as cheap as 85 after we bought one for 90...eg7586 and I bought the box from the same guy that was selling legion boxes at 25 and heralds of galactus packs at a buck a piece....
