Hey guys, never really used a PW figure before, but at my last turny I decided to pull out Vet Kang for my Masters of Evil team, and an interesting quandry came up.
Acoording to the PW rules it says: "If clear lines of fire can be drawn to two or more characters, this characters damage value becomes 1 for this attack; otherwise, use this characters normal damage value."
Now in the turny, it came to a point where my Kang wanted to blast his Ulik using Pulse Wave to ignore his Invulnerability. Now, since Ulik was the only figure in my Pulse Wave range, according to the above rules, I can use my normal damage value (a 2 damage for Vet Kang) but, Kang also has Ranged Combat Expert, this is where the problem started.
While RCE is considered to be a Power Action, Pulse Wave is a ranged combat action. Can I use these two together against one opponent ? Or does Pulse Wave cancel out my powers as well as figures within my range ? I was of the thought that I'm not in my range, since when counting range you don't count the square your figure occupies, but I have a tendency to be wrong. And if Pulse Wave cancels my powers, wouldn't Pulse Wave cancel my Pulse Wave and leave me looking silly ?
Also, if I can use RCE and PW together, can I use RCE and PW against multiple opponents as well ? (Making my effective Pulse Wave damage a 3 instead of a 1)
Unfortunetly we were judge-less and we just rolled for it. But I'd like a definate answer from a judge or person in the know in case it ever comes up again. Thanks, L-o-D.
PW and RCE may not be used together, as PW requires a ranged combat action, and RCE requires a power action (that allows a single-target ranged combat attack). The crux of the difference is action versus attack. The only way to increase PW damage is with perplex, if the perplexer is outside the PW radius, AND the PW only targets a single opponent.

That is incorrect. If it were true, then Kang could never Pulse Wave because he would have to ignore it. And if he then COULD use it, it would ignore Kang's own Invulnerability and injure himself.
PW radiates outward from the attacker... it does not affect the attacker himself.
In my day, we didn't have Heroclix. If you were being attacked by Superman with a 3d dumpster, you just had to hope you could outrun him.
I believe that you cannot use RCE + PW because RCE gives you a free ranged combat attack as opposed to a free ranged combat action, which is what PW requires. However, you could use PW with a power like RS, which gives you a free ranged combat action at the end of it.

Hmmm, I thanks you all for your helpful comments, now I think it makes sense to me. Thanks to Alaskan, I didnt even consider the action vs. attack. #### WK and there obscure wording, lol. Thanks again guys. Guess I won't be wasting the points on kang anymore, rather have ultron and blizzad, lol.
Try using the LE Dr. Doom....I consider him the best of the pulse wave fig's. He has PW and perplex. The only(I think) fig that can perplex up his own pulse wave and use it when there is only one target in range.

Looks like this question has been answered. I've got another PW question I'll throw into this thread rather than start a new one...
If I want to Pulse Wave someone (say, Black Panther) in hindering just inside PW range, but they are standing next to R Invis Girl who is just outside of PW range, will BP get the shared Defend value still, or just the hindering bonus?

With Pulse Wave, the attack only ignores team abilities and powers that characters within range have. Since Invisible Girl is not within range of the attack her Defend is not igored and BP gets to use her defense.

I think that BP would have to use his own defense and not IG's. PW ignores all powers affecting the target, not just all powers on figs in range. At least that is how I read it.
Joker is a WTF kind of peice, and that's how he SHOULD be!

The line from Pulse Wave:
"This attack ignores all team abilities and powers and abilities characters within range have."
It doesn't ignore all powers affecting the target, it ignores all team abilities and powers and abilities characters within range have.
