Christian played in his first tournament on Saturday!!!
So this time my 8 year old got to actually play in the latest event! He was dying to go, but kept forgetting to tell me he was hungry, so he spent a lot of time being hungry.
I asked the locals if they'd allow me to help him with his deck, since he hasn't played many games, but wanted desperately to get to play. They agreed, and I had Chris open his packs. 5 Blinks later and I was wishing I'd gotten his packs :)
2x 1 drop Blink
1x 3 drop Blink
1x 5 drop Blink
1x 7 drop Blink
And more. Too bad most of our play time has been spent without using powers :)
And with Shift being too new for many of the locals, lots of mistakes were made, including allowing Chris to put out a 7 drop Sabertooth on turn 4. He got VERY close to winning many of his games, but actually won none.
However, he DID get passed a booster pack that one of the other guys won as a door prize, only to have his own name drawn for the next door prize.
I started off pretty week, but DID make the top 4 play off barely, and managed to sqeak out a 2nd place finish, netting a play set of the new Black Panther cards that I went down to play for any way.
Chris had a ton of fun and wants to play a lot more so next time he'll know how to use his cards better. Never once did he complain about losing all of his games, but instead he just asked to be taught more about how to play.
And to get more cards, of course. I only got 2 pictures, but I'll have to wait to try to get them posted.
That's awesome Curtis.(aside from the loses)
Really.
There is very little that is cooler than sharing a passion with someone dying to give it a try, and to emulate your every move. Hold onto it. ;)
Rep to you. I remember the first time I took my son to a tournament (heroclix) and watching him play. It's one of those father/son moments that you will never forget.
And with Shift being too new for many of the locals, lots of mistakes were made.
Man, don't make my store sound like a bunch of n00bs. I knew what was up. :)
Seriously, though. Your son is one class act. I never saw any of the usual little kid things that accompany playing games, and he was wonderful to have in attendance. Bring him back any time.
As for you hitting the finals *shakes fist*, if my formation had not been hosed due to dehydration, you would have felt my wrath!
Colby started hitting tournies when he was 8 too. Awesome father/son times. We went to Orlando recently for a soccer tournament and with wife and daughter in the car, we were sharing memories every time we saw a place. Wife and daughter had to feel left out. Score one for the boys.
give the day my unborn daughter hits the roads of england to play vs with me!....i want this sounds so cool having a young one loving a passion of yours
