Forbidden Lance worked so well today that I really want to side another copy for Gravekeeper's. Fossil Dyna and Gorz were the weak links of my side, i found myself not really wanting to side into them and when i did they drew kinda dead.
I'm kinda surprised that you aren't main decking Skill Drain. I can see why not cuz Stratos is a pretty key part of the deck and it keeps Gorz from dropping. Have you thought about side decking your Doomcalibers? Otherwise this probably has a pretty good shot for tomorrow.
So yesterday I managed to pull a 5-3 record, which suprised me, since out of my group I started out the worst but managed the pull the second best. I managed to beat 2 out 3 Saber decks I played which was good in my book.
Round 1: Infernities
Result: 0-1
My worst matchup today, it really consisted of him always drawing 2 Bottomless and 3 Barriers and me drawing absolutely nothing. Plus, he was the slowest Infernity player I've ever faced.
Round 2: Gladiators
Result: 1-1
My best matchup today, I managed to 2-0 him taking minimal damage in both games. I consistantly drew enough Magic and Traps so he couldnt do anything and the Snowman Eaters wreck his glads.
Round 3: Dark Removal
Result: 1-2
The only match today I really played badly in, game 1 I lost to my solemn being solemn during a storm and was attacked for game. Game 2 I held pratcially the entire time. Game 3 I misplayed, instead setting the Crow instead of using it to get rid of the Doom Calibur.
Round 4: Hero/Monarch?
Result: 2-2
Wasn't exactly sure what this was, but I managed to hold my own in all games. It really looked like an old school monarch using D-Draw and Malicious. But I was able to clear every Caius and Stardust of the field with prisons.
Round 5: Blackwing
Result: 3-2
Possibly my next best matchup, the kid wasn't really sure of how to face my deck, as one game I was able to pull Snowman Eaters effect of 5 times and he didnt take oppresion out against me. I 2-0 him quite easily.
Round 6: X-Sabers
Result: 4-2
The Deck I'd been waiting to face all day, I managed to rush him game 1 and pull a early win, but game two I locked myself with an oppresion whlie I had Gorz on hand (I only sided one oppresion), but game three I pulled a Super Polymerization on his Passiul he summoned through Emmers to inflict enough damage to pull me the game.
Round 7: X-Sabers
Result: 5-2
Another Saber which I feared i was going to play (I really wanted to face Glads), game 1 he hit for 9000 damage in a turn (Yay!). Game 2 I didnt take any damage, but for a few turns only had Snowman and Veiler while he was at 50 life. Game three went back and forth but in the in I managed to get the win.
Round 8: X-Sabers
Result: 5-3
This time, the third time wasnt the charm, my only loss to Sabers today, from two constant games of Cold Wave and Rescue Cat. All three games though I managed to hold my own and deal enough damage to prove my self a threat but in the end he always had enough Faultrolls in order to finish me off.
I was surprised how well I managed to face against Sabers, but still didnt managed to pull a 6-2 like I wanted. I did make some funny plays today, like trapping a the round 6 Saber player into attacking my Neos Alius while i had Honest in hand by Booking my Stratos getting me the game. And against the round 8 Saber by Veiling his Hyunlei then start looking at the field counting damage only to drop the Honest on his attack.
All in all, about today one thing can be said, I am glad Cat is going away!
The Deck I used will be posted up top for a short while before I modifiy it for the next format.
Glad to hear that regionals went well. I'm kinda surprised you didn't main a Super Ploy, but its probably good you didn't since you faced Infernities and Dark Removal, although you lost to those anyway.
Updated for the new format, created from my test at my locals last Saturday with a previous build with Skill Drains that did terrible (Due to bad draws and my idoicy).
I can offically say I'm in love with Seven Tools, it disrupts so many players, by how they havent seen it for so long.
Lol we are on the same page. I was just thinking the other day the Seven Tools would be good this format as a side against Gladiators. Well at least I can be expecting this now.
As for the side deck I would go for a 3rd Thunder King. Its been amazing so far this format that I have seen. Then finish it out with either 2 Cyber Dragon or 2 Concecrated Light.
Updated to current build from what I used last Saturday at my locals. It landed me a 3-0 record with me winning every single match save for one.
Round 1: Stall/Exodia
A little kid who was running all sorts of flip effects like Man-Eater Bug and Penguin Soldier, first match I floored him without even learning what his deck did. Game 2, he ends with a Vortex Trooper in attack mode with nothing else, is before 3800 and I have 2 Neos Alius, I attack his Vortex for 1900 and then go for game, when he asks me if he gets to still draw for the effect, I say yes, he draws, and shows me Exodia for game. Third Game I side and rush him for the win.
Round 2: Hero
A normal at our shop who is running Zero Hero and who've I have faced countless times. Both games I held constant control and won without any problems.
Round 3: Blackwings
A match I thought which was going to give me slight trouble but he drew a bad hand (Even after Icurus Attacking me twice) giving me game one. Second game I had a Consecrated Light out most of the game locking him down.
Top Eight 1st Match: Blackwings...Again!
With my recond I placed 3rd and ended up facing my previous opponent once again. Held that game in a simliar way this time negated Blizzard with Veilers everytime and Consecrateds also.
Semifinals: Counter Fairys
A good friend who I havent seen in a while and havent got to play against. Had a somewhat poor hand but through and through I managed to hold the game and win. Game 2, he didnt draw any traps, nuff said.
Finals: X-Sabers
It was late, we spilt the 1st and 2nd prizes, we'll finish Wednesday :P
Overall, besides the random Exodia loss (and my phone being stolen, but gratefully recovered later) I did exceptionally well. Finally focusing on the stun aspect rather then the Fusion which the OCG has with Shining, finally stepped up the decks ability to contend with everything. I would greatly appriciate any advice to help further the deck as it is currently my best competitve.
Trap Stun is a great card this format...but I'm not sure about in here. I've always seem to be hiding behind some sort of Trap and neutralizing it might end up hurting me more then my opponent.
The MST i can also agrue on as it really doesnt do me much better, but at the least i can nail a Counter Trap and still have my defenses be active.
Not much I can see,so I'll have to nitpick. :P
A third Rai-Oh might be a good choice,it hurts most of the competitive decks right now, whether it's Infernities,X-Sabers,Blackwings,or Scrap, King can put all of them in a bind.
Maybe, however,I put to much stock into the card....
I think that a second MST would be a good card to try, since you only run 1 S/T removal.
Nobleman of Crossout is mained for a specific reason,a good one no doubt,so I'll leave it alone.
I like the use of Seven Tools, but MST can be better in certain circumstances;however,MST is probably going to be a random shot, whereas Seven Tools is targeted and stops the trap with no guessing.
Both cards have pros and cons,so it's up to preference.
Overall,I like the deck and I think it looks good; Gemini is one of those decks that I've wanted to try for a while.
So havent updated this deck for a while (And didnt feel like starting a new thread for a deck I've posted). Took this to the Seattle Regional last Saturday (Yes the very one Madking66 had his trade binder stolen at, a crappy end to a not so hot day for him. Proving that 'trust no one' is the golden rule there. Plus side at least I was borrowing his Fossil Dyna's so those also were sparred.) And netted myself a 7-1 record top eighting, something I havent done since Tactical Evolution with my Cyberdark Deck.
Round 1: Gravekeeper's 0-1
A deck I was trying to mentally prepare for the whole tournament. First match, not sure what happened but i floored him which is weird for my luck, started to think things were looking up for me. Game 2 is where everything went horribly wrong, I had shut him down with a Shadow Mirror but lacked the monsters to defend with leading to my loss. Game 3 happened similar to game 2, except for a ruling concerning Solemn Warning being incorrectly ruled by the head judge leading to my loss.
Round 2: Mishmash Exodia (Little Kid) 1-1
Needless to say after my loss I was furious at the ruling (Moreso at how cocky my opponent was about his opinion on it.) I looked up the ruling I found that the head had ruled it wrong added to my frustration leading to my next match...a little kid. Didn't stand a chance, and I managed to keep my cool not to take it out on the kid. Afterwards netted me some good trades.
Round 3: Zombies 2-1
Next match rolled around and I found myself playing zombies. But it didnt seem like a standard regional-style zombie deck but more of the pre-con Zombie Deck slightly modified. 2-0'ed him and went on my merry way.
Round 4: Glads 3-1
My most hated deck of all time. When i saw him open with a Glad i mentally prepared for the worst. Game 1 i held pretty tightly not letting him get much off. Game 2, opened with a Super Poly on his Thunder King when he tried to bottomless my Neos Alius, which ultimately lead to my win.
Round 5: Blackwings 4-1
Another personal favorite oy mine. Game 1, held down pretty good a well timed Warning on Shura's effect saved my ###. Game 2, i got floored didnt even know what happened to me. Game 3, we traded blows with me coming out the winner.
Round 6: Glads 5-1
Glads again, but i was able to overlook it since before the round started me and the guy were cracking some jokes. Game 1, drew every one of my Sparks and decimated him. Game 2, had a similar game barely even touched me.
Round 7: Blackwings 6-1
Oh i wasn't looking forward to this, I've won five straight games and I'm feeling like my luck's running out...wrong. Game 1, he Duality's into an Icarus Attack which i play around the entire game, leading to my second coolist move of the day attacking his set with a Spirit Reaper having him flip over a Blizzard (YEAH!). After that things didnt look good and i grasped victory. Game 2, similar effect held the game and moved into the best record for our group.
Round 8: Six Samurai's 7-1
I honestly forgot this was a deck all day (as i never saw one.). Game 1, lost horribly but turn 2 i was staring down two Shi'Ens and a regualr Shien with four unusble backrows i scooped and moved to the next match. Game 2, he didnt open that great and I managed to wrench the game from him. Game 3, by turn 3 I had four backrows and a set Spirit Reaper while he had Naturia Barkion, Grandmaster, Shien, and Kagamusha, with a Gateway all looking me down. My bottomless had already fizzled against his Barkion when i used it on Shien (losing my Magic and Trap for the turn), so he swings in my reaper sighs and ends. MY only card on hand is Super Poly, which I stare thinking how it can help when i look back at the field. I draw Mirror Force which i greatly wanted to keep but took my chance I played the Super Poly ditching the Mirror Force and looked to my opponent. He read and look somewhat confused, i delcared I was using his Barkion and Shien as my materials and dropped...Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste! He looked confused and stunned as he read the card, which i used its effect to remove Barkion right away (my biggest misplay of that game which fixed itself on a lucky topdeck) and stuck down his Kagumusha. He goes on the defensive and I keep swing at him with both my Draco-Equiste and Reaper whittleing down his hand and life points to the point where he sets a monster and backrow with some excitement. At this point i'm regretting removing his Barkion right away, but i draw into, Mystical Space Typhoon, play it, hit Mirror Force, flip up my Evacuation Device and swing for game, getting me sixth place.
Top 8: Plant Synchro
I got a new mat and truthfully couldnt believe i was after so long sitting at the top eight table. My soon to be opponent was encouraging me that I'd win my match even after we discovered we were facing each other. Game 1, I look at my hand in dread thinking my luck's run out, but due to holding out as long as I could and a lucky topdecked Mirror Force and Miracle Fusion I won. Game 2, happened similar to game 1, not a great starting hand but I worked with what I had eventually hitting his Ryko's with a Crossout gaining a huge advantage which lead to my win and me getting a new binder, yay! (My Monster Binder, which i got for free, was falling apart, half the pages missing or falling out, big deal for me.)
All in all I was excited that after so long I was able to top eight once more and earn a new mat, Rainbow Dragon you can rest now...But to every good thing there is a bad as my good friend Madking had his binder stolen which really put a sour taste in my mouth as I was so happy that I was doing good while he was in distress.
My group's records:
Me (Hero Gemini): 7-1
Synchro Plant: 5-3
Frog Monarchs (Undine Version): 5-3
Glads: 5-3
Unknown (I didnt actually get to see or know what he was playing): 5-3
2 Dragon Decks: Both 4-4
Samurai: 4-4
Monarch: 4-4
Gravekeeper: 1-2 (Drop)
