Swarm of the Lightning Festival - Swiss Army Knife Concept
This is Rvgroxas'/boynextdoor7's army, I take no credit! I think its really tricky, and well-put together.
Hi Guys, I wanted to finally post this army so that I could get advice from our MK Brethen regarding the SLF army I cooked up .
First of all I want to thank Kuya Roger and Everyone for Introducing me to the Shyft Spawn Army Concept 2 years ago
Call Familiar:
Do not cast Call Familiar
at the Begininning of your first command phase, choose a single friendly figure with a point value no greater than 30 points; this figure is the caster's familiar. Announce this choice to all players.
if the familiar is eliminated, turn its combat dial to its starting marker and place it in base contact with the caster.
500pts army:
Domains: Time of Mists and/or Death ( To counter Blackstone prison and other domain/ also for fun since Domains are part of MK battles )
Deathseekers AC 48pts ( AC potential 1 to 3 Damage Increase)
Kenaz Stoneheart 99pts
Book of Lightning 60pts ( Centerpiece Cheesiness and attack the opponent's key figures/spellcasters/support figs, attacks every turn due to Priest Sydin's leadership as a Construct of oracle of Rokos. Kenaz also does great in close combat attack for anyone who manages to reach the Big 5, He also heals thru command if ever oracle of rokos or Priest Sydin gets demoralized) ( Book of lightning also ignores high defense modifiers so the 12 attack of kenaz can get thru most situations)
Vahkama C 53 pts ( Bodyguard for those who managed to reach kenaz/ also Augments for 11 attack)
Fys'okro B 49pts ( Secondary Centerpiece/support due to call familiar and Back up Summon/ Healer/Counterspeller, Spellcaster/ be able to MOVE EVERY TURN due to leadership from oracle of Rokos )
Book of Control 40pts
10 page Call Familar
6 page Disenchant ( to counter Psychic Reflection, Bonestrike etc.)
4 page Disbelieve ( to counter Pyresphere, Mechanoid, etc. )
6 page Deny ( Initial counterspelling in the first few turns while BOL damages your opponents spellcaster)
*Oracle of Rokos 40pts ( Secondary Centerpiece/support due to call familiar/ emergency caster of arcane sight to kenaz/ Copies leadership from Priest Sydin)
Codex of Light 45 ( legal due to solonavi faction req. )
10page Call Familiar
16page Form Construct - Priest Sydin 49pts Construct ( Sydin Provides the Leadership ability of the army and if appropriate, as a Hexer)
4 page Arcane sight ( for those pesky ghostform figs)
*Blackwings 3 x 16 = 48pts ( pseudo Centerpiece Harassers that can kick ### even in Aerial battles and never die)
*Grimlin 10pts ( pseudo Centerpiece Harassers that can double time for 24 inch and hit the back objective of the opponent ) ( also for the GRIMLIN 5-6 SPAM ATTACK )
Marauder Gishki A 8pts ( objective sitter/ extra, can also be switched for improving vahkama to D dial or to ** Blackwing. if ever )
total of : 500pts ( almost like 549 points due to Form Construct priest Sydin )
the 5 harassers stay in the middle while the Big 5 ( kenaz, fyoskoro, oracle of rokos, vahkama and sydin) stay at either side of the field with a BLOCKING terrain in front of them for guarding. The Big 5 must be protected at all costs.
fyoskoro faces everyone for potential magic healing and also base contacts kenaz, oracle, and sydin for possible enchant casting. Vahkama stays a good 1 inch distance from the Four.
The SLF army has taken different modifications and tweaks to better improve and utilize the idea of faster and efficient recycling of spawns along with range and spellcasting base on researching in different reviews and ideas around mk realms and the conquest and id like to share it to everyone. The idea is to finally fuse a near perfect army concept that I could think increases its probability to handle different situations from expected armies and unexpected armies. This is for the love of the Shyft and for Queen Domina haha
It also focuses on the Combo: GRIMLIN 5-6 SPAM ATTACK.
I choose To use Call Familiar Mainly in the Army for the Reason that for me, it gives a lot of Benefits rather using summon.
Using summon against Call Familiar ( But I still use Both )
-you use an action to summon/revive the figure
-cant use summon if youre in base contact with an opponent fig
-a chance to lose the ability if damaged
- Be affected by the Relic Swarmwoe which if a figure is summoned. the opponent rolls a dice, the roll minus 2 determines the number of damage to the newly summoned swarm
Strengths: you can summon Higher Leveled spawns with the right summoner point level but this army uses only blackwings and grimlins so no prob.
Using Call Familar against summon
-figure gets revived for like free when it dies so you save an action Free Summoning
-to stop this mechanism, the only way is you have to kill the owner of the familiar
-figure is revived even if the owner of the familiar is in based contact with an opposing figure
-Swarmwoe will not trigger because the figure it isnt brought back thru summon
- since it uses no actions for reviving the fig, The actions can be given to others for attacking and casting.
Weakness: 30pt figures and below can only be used but you only use blackwings and grimlins here so its good.
so a grimlin and a blackwing gets to be the familiar and Fyoskoro does the summoning of the others for emergency situations.
The Infinite grimlin attack applies when an opposing fig is within the grimlins surge range so when the grimlin does a surge attack, and since it only has 3 clicks of life it will die due to at least minimum 1 damage from surge, 1 damage from augment to 11 attack and 1 damage from deathseekers This also applies to the blackwing just in case the black wing still survives due to it having 4 clicks of life. So that means, A Grimlin can DO 5 ATTACKS STRAIGHT ON ONE FIGURE ON ONE TURN by recycling/reviving for free due to call familiar and surging again WITH A CHANCE OF A SIXTH ATTACK TURN DUE TO KENAZ'S COMMAND. rinse and repeat.
Possible version: switch vahkama for oracular codex ( sydin legally equips it as a Construct, Constructs cant equip spellbooks due to deployment issues) spawns may have only 10 attack left from fyoskoro but the codex can help every one and you can also add another grimlin to the frey. I couldnt fit in Archer's aim any more for those dodge figures.
Feel free for Comments and Suggestions

Utilizing form construct to bring Sydin into the game, but because he is the product of a spell, I don't think he can legally equip a relic. Spellbooks and spells are part of the initial building phase, as are relics. Although I'm not certain, spells like form construct don't take effect until after this phase. So I don't think it would be legal because it would be like fielding a relic without a wielder. If this is the case, a wise choice would be to throw another call familiar in there. And maybe something along the lines of arcane sight, so Kenaz can target ghostform figures.
Beyond that, this build appears quite brilliant. Kenaz w/Book of lightning can take care of figures with damage reduction and dodge, along with uber bounders and skydragons. Plenty of harrassers means anything would have a hard time getting close. Your only problem would be anti-range armies designed around things like Stormwall, Kosian SHieldtome and the Galeshi Sunsword. If a Trix or (if it's even possible) Vorgoth With a Sunsword came swooping in and dealt with Kenaz, Vah'Kama would be hard pressed to deal with the threat due to his short dial. Something to boost his damage value and even attack would go a long way because he more than likely would get a first shot thanks to something else having to deal with Kenaz first.
Beyond those few things, I don't think anything short of a hate army can take this build down.
That's a tough one... I'd have to do the math, but I think it would come down to what will help your MS connect more, Vah'kama's 11 attack, or an Oracular Codex. But then what would happen to the Book of Control? If you could somehow get the points for a bigger spell book, it might be cool to squeeze a Hunter's Luck or two, in which case your MS will almost never miss. Did you find Vah'kama's 11 attack to not be good enough?
