This has been talked about before and it may or may not even be announced this week but we are getting four teams in the VS relaunch at Gencon. Questions have been asked about what these factions will be and I'm going to take a stab at it and am curious what others opinions are.
I'm going to assume that they will go with two super hero teams and two villain teams but maybe they will do something different. Who knows.
1)Avengers - This seems like a no-brainer. One of their most popular IP's and off the back of the new movie. Gives them a chance to print all of the popular super heroes that are in every little kids home and television. Also appeals to comic book collectors for obvious reasons. If Avengers aren't a core team on launch, they're shooting themselves in the foot.
2)Guardians of the Galaxy - a fun and popular choice. Not as known as some of their other IP's but the movie a few years ago definitely put them in the spotlight. It makes a lot of sense to include them as Groot, Rocket Racoon and company make for good marketing. That said, there aren't many other supporting characters so they might get left out. I still think that they're a solid choice.
3)Masters of Evil - Another no-brainer in my opinion. Let's them include Ultron, Baron Zemo, Yellowjacket, and other popular Villains that are getting their own movie, mainly Yellowjacket.
The last team is a toss up. They could Kree to go along with Guardians of the Galaxy or maybe they will opt to X-Men and Brotherhood. I'll go with Kree.
You think so? I figure they'll do a generic reboot ... but I could see them appeasing Marvel and lining it up with MCU releases; so that would make it Ant Man?
I take it back - with the new information and the listing of Loki and Thanos and Captain America as main characters, I am thinking they will go more towards the Marvel Superstars style of teams. So I vote X Men, Avengers, Marvel Knights and Villains, with 4 main characters per team.
My guesses on main characters;
X Men: Cyclops-Wolverine-Storm-Phoenix
Avengers: Captain America-Iron Man-Thor-Black Widow
Marvel Knights: Spider Man-Daredevil-Punisher-Ghost Rider
Villains: Loki-Thanos-Magneto-Red Skull
You won't see X-Men or the Fantastic Four on any Marvel product until they hash out the licenses with the studios that currently control them. It's the same issue we're seeing in HeroClix right now.

I didn't know that Fox/Sony licensing extended to collectibles/cards/games.
It didn't when VS was out and looking at Marvel Legendary from UDE, they have X-Men and Spiderman characters (although no FF characters).
So, I was not too far off, from facebook the word is the teams are Avengers, Guardians, X Men, Villains - just missed Marvel Knights for Guardians, my bad.
