To clarify the particular scenario above.... if you choose to reroll the miss, you are rerolling the entire attack roll, correct? Meaning, you are negating your one hit. I don't think you can choose to keep the hit and reroll only the miss. I don't think you guys were implying that; just wanted to clarify it.

Yes a re-roll would re-trigger the check on all targets, there's not really any sort of split state where you would re-roll for one of multiple targets.

That is correct.
If you choose to reroll the attack roll then you reroll the attack roll.
You do not get to keep the old roll for purposes of hitting this guy but re-roll it to try and hit that guy too.
You either stick with the roll you have and be happy with the one hit or you re-roll it to try and hit both but risk hitting none.
