Just curious after really examining the Ultimates stats and their TA, Can any TA beat them? What strategies could or would you use against them. It seems like WK specifically manuevered this TA to be unbeatable...................
"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger..."
Sure, Ultimates can see through stealth and ignore terrain. Sure Ultimates have ungodly combat dials for lower point costs. Sure Ultimates are some of the best (combat value wise) characters we've seen in the game thus far. Sure Ultimates will become cheesier than KC Superman.
That doesn't make them unbeatable, it makes them easy to use. Any TA with characters with Outwit and good combat values will give Ultimates a run for their money. I still believe a good X-Men team can take most any other team.
(Provided that you have no problem chessing it up) Even The Brotherhood has pumped up its roster and become VERY formidable in TA based tourneys.
I don't know what the big deal is about the Ultimates TA, I mean, it's the same as Superman Ally TA, right? The Ultimates aren't unbeatable but yeah some of them are really power pieces...
The TA's impressive, though. For one thing, it's being applied to several grounded pieces, investing each with an ability to ignore hindering terrain not only with respect to taking shots but while moving. That Captain America can Charge without having to come to a dead stop when he hits hindering terrain is a great improvement over what I considered a major defect in the IC Cap.
Bring in the Thor and Iron Man, with their Running Shot, and let them work over the teams with all of the Stealthed pieces for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing this (much as with more Superman TA pieces) help change the dynamics of team building.
As is generally the case, most of the noise will be made over wildcards copying the TA. Still, it makes sense to me that Daredevil (even if it's just the vet) might pick this up, much as it does for Dr. Doom or Klaw, come to think of it.
I welcome the addition, and my only complaint is that they tied it nominally to the Ultimates. I'd hate to think they'd only be slapping this on "Ultimate" versions of characters, much as I'd expect that there would be some DC villains who deserve it but would seem strange with a Superman Ally symbol on the dial.
ULTIMATES QUESTION:
THE TEAM ABILITY SAYS TEAM MEMBERS INGORE HINDERING TERRAIN. So Cap can see Nightwing in hindering terrain and Nightwing won't get the plus 1 to his defense if bangs him upside the head with his shield.
HOWEVER, Does that mean that if Cap is in hindering terrain, then he does NOT get the plus 1 to his defense if he is target of an attack from Firelord?
Why do people think Ultimates are so great and unbeatable. They are the same thing as Superman and before Ultimates nobody was afraid of Superman Allies. I meen everyone is afraid of Thor and Iron Man with there running shot and Ultimates. When nobody is afraid of OWAW Superman when he has hypersonic speed and Superman team. If you say its because of his dammage is 3 woopty doo he can do 1 or 2 less. That's really agravating.
A little off topic, but I am happy to see some powerful Marvel characters. Due to time and money constraints, I only collect Marvel, since those were the comics I collected as a kid. Now that we have some higher powered Marvel characters, I might-- just might-- be able to compete in Open events without an Outwit army to counteract all the Hypersonic Speed and Impervious that Wizkids passes out like candy to DC characters.
Of course, I only have 2 boosters worth of Ultimates, so maybe not. I did get a Hulk in them though, so look out.
I don't think that they're un-beatable good, but they're very good.
Vet Hawkeye is probably their most abusive fig. Iron man and Cap are very strong pieces, and Thor and Hulk are godly for their costs. Their only downfall is how expensive most of them are.
