You should be happy they made a Galactus at all.
I asked them last year if they were going to making any more big figs, and I was told that they 'weren't profitable.'
okay, I planed on reading all of this before I started responding, but I gotta no.
yes, we're (in theory) happy they even "made a Galactus at all,"
BUT
why is it big figs don't sell well? could it be that they don't bring enough of them to conventions? I drove with my son to LA SPECIFICALLY to go get my son a Galactus
--I would have also bought a second for a friend who doesn't even play the game, but wanted one cause he's a comics fan who's always enjoyed Galactus stories--
But, for some mystery reason someone dropped a zero off the Galactus order form (my fantasy guess, this postulation is based on no facts) and 90% (a fair guess, wouldn't you say?) of would-be Galactus-purchasers went home with $75 worth of extra cash in their pockets that they would ahve much rather given to WizKids.
So why don't other big figs sell well at WWLA? oh yeah, same reason I guess. I would have bought 5 or so sentinels and a sinestro in order to get the surfer and sue LEs, but no, there were none to be bought. sorry, wizkids, I wanted like crazy to give you my retail-price money, but your inventory snafu kept on rollin.
as #32 and 33 on sunday's all-night line, we knew we had a slim chance of getting a galactus, but we tried it anyway. my little boy wanted one bad enough to spend the night outside on the concrete for what we thought would be as good a chance as any to get one.
I don't want anything for free really, I'd rather pay for what I get through cash or labor ( <-hint to you know who). I think that Terrence feels the same way really.
But I also believe that advertising was misleading, and I feel foolish for being misled into attending a convention that I would have never otherwise attended (sorry, Wizardworld, I grew up with CCSD, and it's just the biggest and best).
Sure, i had a good time in spite of all the galactus-inspired carpola, but would I have wasted my weekend in vain? no. can I get my weekend back? no. can I buy a galactus for regular price right now? no. should I or those who were there be made to feel bad for speaking from the heart on this issue? NO!
True I might have never met seth green, but had I not been so lack-of-sleep addled, I might not have called him "Scott" either (d'oh!).
I got an email with a quote taken from somewhere in this thread mentioning "the bizarro richard simmons". my lack of sleep kept me from fully comprehending what was going on at the time, but I think that his behavior in line on sunday morning needs to be looked at a little more closely. more on this in a future post.
many have rightfully said things to the effect that we should not dwell in the past, that we now have word that things in the future will be better, and that product count will be increased.
I had a great idea: what if we send you (WizKids) our badges from WWLA and $100+ shipping and you don't send us galactus unless we also include like 75 Clix points. that'll prove we're not scamming ebayer opportunists like BRS, and that we really do buy your products.
hey, here's finally a use for all those clix points!
Originally posted by Marshal Law I found out from another envoy that only 30 figures were left for Sunday, and noticed about 15 people were already camped out as of 7PM. On a whim, I decided to bite the bullet and join them. The WizKids envoys were *very* supportive of us campers. They were adamant that we remained in line to insure our place, but otherwise allowed us to self police against cutters. One envoy, handle of SonOfZeus (spelling?), went above and beyond the call - providing us with pizza from the envoy appreciation party and checking in in the wee hours of the morning to see how things were going. And he did some sound diplomacy in crowd control when things got a litle dicey come opening time. And Dorcas was true to her word with the figure vouchers.
Was SonOfZeus (aka Bizarro Richard Simmons) checking in on us or checking in on his money? The four brothers sleeping in line were his shills, weren't they? isn't it true that this Blue-shirted WizKids Envoy who was telling us all night that we should tell his WizKids superiors what a good job he was doing in keeping order in the line was witnessed by W100002 going into the parking lot with the aforementioned four boys and paying them for their Galacti? Wasn't the only thing dicey about the "crowd control" that BRS was performing was his own motivation and performance? Didn't he get up in the face of another older kid (#29 or 30) who was offering one of the 4 brothers and command him to stay away and not talk to this brother when the older kid was trying to offer the brother $75 simply for his voucher? what do they call these behaviors? I'm sure there's a name.
and yes, Dorcas, was true and accurate on sunday with regard to number of vouchers.
big (non-sarcastic) thanks for that.

For my own part, that late night stay was the best part of the convention. Being an avid import game fan, I introduced about 10 people to the game Bohnanza and ended up with people lining up to play. I came to WWLA with the hope of getting some gaming in on the side, who'd have thought it would take this to actually acomplish that. The real treat came in the morning, when it ended up only 28 figures were left. Two girls in the front, having waited all night, actually gave up their slots for the two end stragglers that had thought they had a chance. All of us were quite impressed - I gave each of them a pair of brushed steel dice and their choice of uniques from my trade stock (one took Amazo, one took Spiral), someone else offered them $20 each. It was the least we could do for that show of compassion, and it showed a level of integrity that most of us had seen precious little of in Saturday's Galactus run.
those girls didn't stay in line all night. there were two females in line all night, and those two weren't eithe of them. but yes it was nice all around with them doing the right thing and everyone rewarding them for it.
and yes, Bohnanza rules. it's the next heroclix. I'm currently working on a way to integrate it into clix rules. but don't get too excited, while using swamp thing automatically counts as having a third field, puke beans still can't carry other puke beans.

As it happened, being the first 30 in the door we still found nearly a 100 people already lined up. Only this time they got the bad news that they were SOL.
and thank goodness for that.

The bottom line for me is WizKids drastically (and not entirely blamelessly) underestimated demand. They were overwhelmed with a bad situation on Saturday that could have been handled better, but that they learned from their mistakes and did things right on Sunday. Some excellent ideas on how to handle things next time, including the voucher and minimum purchase ideas, will hopefully be par for the course in the future. Overall I think they redeemed themselves admirably and would hold that opinion even if I had walked away empty handed.
I agree. and I hope to meet you again someday at another con. thank you for being part of the experience.

Didn't he get up in the face of another older kid (#29 or 30) who was offering one of the 4 brothers and command him to stay away and not talk to this brother when the older kid was trying to offer the brother $75 simply for his voucher?
the above should have read:
Didn't BRS get up in the face of another older kid (#29 or 30) and command him to stay away and not talk to one of the 4 brothers when the older kid was trying to offer the brother $75 simply for that brother's voucher because the older kid seemed at that time shorted by WizKids (but eventually the not-in-line all night girls coughed up older kid's ticket)?
sorry, it was late when I posted.
and I'm not sure this version was much clearer. some names would have helped.
I think "older kid" was Alec. I have idea about the names of the brothers. I mean, when you're on a secret mission from bizarro richard simmons, you tend to try and stay quiet, right?

Wow, if macliving is who I think he is...man he's on fire. Anyways, I hope you cooled off a lot after typing up all those things. I know I did.
I know no one wants to hear another word of the WWLA incident, but, I just hope WizardWorld East goes much better than WWLA.
In the paraphrased words of my local comic book guy 'WW East will set the standard on what the whole convention season will be like.' If everyone complains again once WW East comes around, I know I won't be waiting to get a Galactus for a friend come Comic Con San Diego's time (although I might be there for other comic book stuff).
Not blaming WizKids, 1000s of others already did that, but I just really hope the whole mess gets cleaned up. I hope Galactus' price will drop to a reasonable amount because everyone will have a good chance of getting one by the end of convention season (even though I paid blood for mine). 'Cause I don't want anyone to go through what Person #32 had to go through.
I run HeroClix tournaments at Shuffle and Cut in La Habra, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.

Oh, and on a side note about the four kids of Apocalypse not only did they offer $75 underhandedly (is that a word?) for the voucher, BUT when they were in line, they were braggin' "We got a Galactus" followed by laughter. It's nothing I would be doing, but i think their behavior wasn't the best. But then again, I don't know these non-players whom never seen a single HeroClix figure until the night they camped out!

in a world of greed, it seems that Wizkids has a hard time walking the fine line. Satisfying their customers and keeping the the game interesting and in demand on one side. Causing a monstrosity of a problem of unsatisfied people who cannot afford sought after pieces on the other side. I think they know their failures and i wholeheartedly feel that they are trying their best not to repeat failures. I love what the company has done in the past and a little tarnish will not stop me from enjoying an excellent game.
